Drinking Alcohol Raises the Risk of Cancer

Researchers have found that drinking damages part of the cells that are linked to premature ageing and cancer.

They discovered that it causes stress and inflammation to telomeres – the ends of DNA strands that stop them unravelling much like the ends of shoelaces.

As people age, telomere length shortens progressively and eventually they are so damaged the cell dies.

The study found alcohol accelerates this process.

Since telomere shortening is thought to also increase cancer risk, the researchers speculated that those with shorter telomeres due to heavy alcohol consumption would have an increased risk of cancer.

Andrea Baccarelli, the lead researcher at the University of Milan in Italy, said: “Heavy alcohol users tend to look haggard, and it is commonly thought heavy drinking leads to premature ageing and earlier onset of diseases of ageing.”

The researchers looked at more than 250 volunteers some of whom drank more than four alcoholic drinks per day.

They were similar in age and other factors that might affect telomere length, such as diet, physical exercise, work-related stress and environmental exposures.

Results showed that telomere length was dramatically shortened in those who consumed heavy amounts of alcohol. In some telomere length was nearly half as long as telomere length in the non-abusers.

Results of the study were presented at the American Association for Cancer Research’s annual conference.

FDA Issues Ridiculous Warning About Dog Bones

U.S. Food and Drug Administration has updated the consumers and has advised the dog owners to not to give bones to their pets. It can account to injuries in the pets, leading to death.

It has been commented by Carmela Stamper, D.V.M. and a veterinarian in the Center for Veterinary Medicine at the Food and Drug Administration that giving bones is a dangerous practice and no matter what the size of the bones is, it can lead to drastic outcomes. She is urging people to come out of their myth of giving bones to dogs.

The FDA has said that bones can cause broken teeth, mouth or tongue wounds. If the lower jaw of your dog is hurt then it can lead to an expensive trip to the doctors and in addition, it will be very painful for the dog. The bones can jam the tube, thorough which food reaches the stomach or it can also get stuck in the wind pipe of the dog, causing breathing issues.

Bones may even get jammed up in stomach which will make it difficult to pass it out to the intestines, causing blockage and constipation. It could also cause bacterial infection like peritonitis.

Dr. Stamper said, “Talk with your veterinarian about alternatives to giving bones to your dog”.

I love you and what you stand for…

Kevin:

Recently I listen to the audio book, Natural Cures ‘They’ Don’t Want You To Know About.  I learned so much from these CD’s that I have been trying to figure out for a number of years.

I am 47, white female, 5ft 5in, 147lbs.  I work out regularly, and take care of my body the best it will let me. I don’t trust or believe anything I read in the news or on labels.  For a long time I have told my husband that our food is going to kill us.  Every time a doctor has ever wanted to give me an RX for something, I tell them I don’t want it. I had to have surgery one year ago for female issues and I told the nurses to disconnect the pain pump and do not give me anything else.  I did not want it. I would suffer through.

I have been in two auto accidents where anyone else would have taken all the drugs they could get, but me, I figured out what they were doing and I choose to go to a chiropractor after many months, and low and behold he was the only one that helped me.

My mother in law was near dead when she came to our state one summer to visit.  I told my husband to take her to a local doctor because she was on too much medicine.  She went to the doctor, he threw out everything she was on, except 1 or 2 things. He told them it was amazing she was not dead. She has improved and that was 6 yrs ago.

We live in the country and have access to raising and feeding out our beef.  I have done this 3 times in the last six years. I have attempted to eat as little beef as possible and eat poultry and fish when possible.  Well until I heard your information, I did not know I could buy poultry that was clean.  I have done so and I was amazed at the quality of the meat. The first thing I noticed was the texture.

Same thing with some fruits and veggies. The bananas just blew my mind at the taste!  I have been drinking filtered water or bottled water and did not know that the bottled water has crap in it.

My husband thought I was crazy for all the things I had told him, but when he started listening to your CD’s, it got his attention, so now he is trying new things.  He took me grocery shopping and we purchased only organics and read every label.  Took us 2 hours to do this, but I am now driving 1 hr away to make additional purchases.  My teenager thinks “Mom has lost her mind”!  Little did he know that I emptied his Jiff peanut butter jar, and filled it with organic peanut butter and he has NO clue.  I am working on a few other things for him.

Kevin, thank you sooooooo much for the work you are doing.  Please keep telling us the names of things and what they are so people like me can make the best decision possible. I love you and what you stand for and really appreciate your bravery.

I guess you could say I am now, mad as hell!

Have a great day.

Mercury Higher in Specific Tuna Species

Fox News

Tuna sushi from your local supermarket might have lower mercury levels and so be safer to eat than sushi from a high-end restaurant, a new study using fish DNA suggests.

The results show that some species of tuna, particularly those that restaurants value for their firmer flesh and appealing look — such as blue fin akami and all big eye tuna — have higher mercury levels than other species typically found in grocery stores.

Overall, however, all the tuna had pretty high mercury levels. The levels were, on average, greater than the concentrations considered safe to consume in one day by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and higher than the concentrations allowed in Japan.

The research could lead to better labeling to help tuna eaters cut down on the amount of mercury they consume, something that can have toxic effects, the researchers say.

“So far, the U.S. does not require restaurants and merchants to clarify what species they are selling or trading, but species names and clearer labeling would allow consumers to exercise greater control over the level of mercury they imbibe,” said study researcher Jacob Lowenstein, a graduate student affiliated with the American Museum of Natural History in New York, which conducted the genetic part of the research.

Sushi DNA

While previous studies have identified a difference in mercury levels between tuna species, those studies weren’t necessarily reliable because they didn’t have a fool-proof way of determining which tuna came from which species, said study researcher Joanna Burger, a professor at Rutgers University.

The new study used a technique called DNA bar-coding to identify which tuna came from which species. With this method, scientists use a specific DNA sequence from an organism — called a species “fingerprint” — to match a sample of unknown origin with a certain species. This comes in handy for identifying tuna species, since distributors and supermarkets don’t often know exactly what type of tuna they’re selling, Burger said.

“[This is the] first study where every sample of tuna that we examined was bar-coded so that we know for sure what the specie is, there was no guess work,” Burger said.

For now, consumers should be aware that that ordering tuna sushi could come with risks.

“The range of mercury in tuna is very great, so you’re taking [a] risk if you don’t know what kind of tuna you’re eating,” Burger said.

Top Sushi

The researchers took sushi samples from 54 restaurants and 15 supermarkets in New York, New Jersey, and Colorado. The samples were identified as being from as bigeye tuna, yellow fin tuna or one of two blue fin tuna species.

Mercury levels in the blue fin akami species, (sushi from lean, dark red tuna) and all big eye tuna samples were significantly higher than the levels in blue fin toro (sushi from fatty tuna) and yellow fin tuna samples.

The average mercury levels in bluefin akami were higher than those permitted by the US Food and Drug Administration (1 part per million, or ppm).

The varying mercury levels between the species are partly due to the fact that mercury accumulates more in muscle than it does in fat, leading to higher concentrations in the leaner bluefin akami.

However, yellow fin tuna are also lean, but they might have lower mercury levels for a few reasons: They are smaller than other tuna, don’t eat as much, and tend to be killed at younger ages, so they don’t accumulate mercury for as long as other species.

The results were published online today in the journal Biology Letters.

Why is Fish Oil Important?

April 22, 2010 by KT

I can’t stress this enough. Do not buy vitamins and minerals from the major mainstream manufacturers. The bigger the brand, the more you should stay away. Vitamins are not Vitamins and Food supplements are not Food supplements. That is exactly the reason I’ve selected certain manufacturers that I personally endorse and recommend on my website.

These are products that I take myself and thus feel comfortable recommending you to take them as well. I only allow products on my website that I personally use. I have to turn away a lot of great sponsors because I just don’t use their product.

One such product I must mention is Fish Oil. Fish Oil has Omega 3′s, and Omega 3′s have huge health benefits. This is not me saying it, this is what the research says, this is what the documentation says, this is what medical doctors and scientists say all around the world. It’s not even a question any more.

Researchers now have proven that Omega 3′s eliminate depression, increase energy and increase fat burning capabilities in the body. Omega 3′s provide major benefits to cardiovascular health and heart health. They actually open up the arteries and increase circulation. The benefits of Omega 3′s are amazing. Omega 3′s also boost your immune system and keep your cholesterol levels at the optimum so that your liver is working properly and your body is operating properly.

Well, now there’s a lawsuit and has been reported on ABC News and many other news outlets. The lawsuit says that Fish Oil supplements are loaded with industrial chemicals including PCB’s, which can cause cancer and birth defects.

Big companies who sell Fish Oil supplements are cheaper than others. People buy products that are cheaper. Well, there is a reason why it’s cheaper. They’re publicly traded corporations and all they care about is money. They produce garbage and lie to you and they get suckers to buy it.

Now we find out that the garbage that these companies are selling are loaded with PCB’s, industrial chemicals that are very harmful, because they’re getting the fish oil from fish that are in cesspools.

So what is the answer? The answer is very simple. Get the products you trust, from the place you trust.

Get Pacific Rim Fish Oil from the link on my website.

Get other Supplements from the link on my website.

Get Grass Fed Beef from the link on my website.

Folks, these are products I use EVERY DAY and it just wouldn’t feel right to not inform you about their amazing health benefits.

Yours in Health,

Secret Gates Memo Calls for Iran Attack

April 21, 2010 by Andrew

Press TV

A secret memo by US Defense Secretary Robert Gates urges Washington to consider the use of military force against Iran if diplomacy fails to scrap the country’s nuclear program.

In what seems to be a new twist in US efforts to tackle Iran’s enrichment activities, The New York Times reveals that a three-page memorandum, which has been circulating in Washington since January, has advocated military action against Tehran.

The classified memorandum, according to unnamed government officials quoted by the Times, warns that Washington lacks an effective policy in dealing with Iran’s nuclear program and should therefore come up with new options.

One senior official has said that the memo accuses Iran of weapons development and lays out a set of military alternatives to counter Iran’s progress in nuclear science and technology.

Some US officials, however, have played down the significance of the report, saying that the Obama administration has always “anticipated the full range of contingencies” against Iran.

“It is absolutely false that any memo touched off a reassessment of our options,” AP quoted National Security Council spokesman Benjamin Rhodes as saying.

“This administration has been planning for all contingencies regarding Iran for many months,” he added.

The memo has surfaced at a time when Washington is trying to garner support for a new set of sanctions on Iran over its refusal to give up uranium enrichment.

For years, Washington has accused Iran of having plans to build a secret nuclear weapons program “in the near future.”

Iran has rejected the accusations, saying that its nuclear program is intended for energy production, not weapons development.

Teens Text More Than Talk Face to Face

AOL News

By Carl Franzen

Not so long ago, “text” simply described plain old letters on a page. Today, according to new research, it’s become the primary method of communication for America’s teenagers, more popular even than face-to-face conversations.

It’s enough to make even the least tech-savvy of adults sit up straight and go, “OMG!”

News of the paradigm shift comes by way of a report on “Teens and Mobile Phones,” released today by the Pew Research Center. After surveying some 800 teens ages 12 to 17, Pew found that 54 percent were daily texters, up drastically from just 38 percent in 2008, and now far outpacing actually talking to each another, which rests at a measly 33 percent.

Just as staggering is the sheer volume of texting being done by today’s teens. The study found that half of all those it surveyed send upwards of 50 text messages a day, for a total of 1,500 a month. One in three sent more than 100 a day. The researchers also noted a distinct gender divide, with young women texting on average much more than young men (80 texts daily versus 30), a finding that contradicts results of previous  studies  on the same subject.

The Pew study does more than just provide raw data on the texting trend. It analyzes how such extensive cell phone use complicates relationships with authority figures, reporting that “for parents, teens’ attachment to their phones is an area of conflict and regulation,” especially as their parents attempt to limit usage and control the contents of information being sent and stored.

More than two-thirds of parents reportedly check the contents of their child’s phone, and 62 percent have taken it away as a form of punishment. Meanwhile, 64 percent of the teens surveyed admitted to texting in class, despite the fact that 65 percent of the study group attended schools that completely banned cell phones.

Pew also briefly addresses the phenomenon of “Sexting,” which has resulted in numerous legal problems and personal tragedies for many teens in recent years. The report notes that 4 percent of the teens surveyed “say they have sent a sexually suggestive nude or nearly nude image of themselves to someone via text message,” while 15 percent had received such images. Pew also published a study late last year specifically addressing “Teens and Sexting,” but the implications of those findings are likely to change in light of the latest report.

Reacting to the findings, technology guru and parent Cory Doctorow drew a comparison between the mobile phone’s place in the lives of today’s teens and the place held by cars for teens of the past. Writing on Boing Boing, Doctorow observes that the explosion of teen drivers beginning in the postwar era produced something else now taken for granted:

The widespread adoption of driving licenses by teens meant that for the first time in American history, practically every adolescent could be expected to carry government-issued identity papers. …

People Consume Up to 46 Teaspoons of Sugar a Day!

April 21, 2010 by Andrew

Telegraph.co.uk

Researchers say food companies have been consistently increasing the sugar content of their products to make them more enticing to customers.

And they warn that a high-sugar diet is just as deadly as a high-fat diet when it came to increasing cholesterol and adding to the risk of heart disease.

The study, published in the April edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association, found many people were unaware of how much sugar they were eating.

Assistant Prof Miriam Vos, from the pediatrics unit at America’s Emory School of Medicine, said the high-sugar diet was a silent threat because so much sugar was hidden in foods.

“Just like eating a high-fat diet can increase your levels of triglycerides and high cholesterol, eating sugar can also affect those same lipids,” she said.

“Total consumption of sugar has increased substantially in recent decades, largely due to an increased intake of added sugars, defined as caloric sweeteners used by the food industry and consumers as ingredients in processed or prepared foods to increase the desirability of these foods.”

The study looked at nutritional data and blood results of 6,000 adult men and women between 1999 and 2006.

The study subjects were divided into five groups according to the amount of added sugar and caloric sweeteners they consumed daily.

Prof Vos said: “The highest-consuming group consumed an average of 46 teaspoons of added sugars per day. The lowest-consuming group consumed an average of only about three teaspoons daily.

“It would be important for long-term health for people to start looking at how much added sugar they’re getting and finding ways to reduce that.”

The study was the first study of its kind to examine the association between the consumption of added sugars and lipid measures, such as HDL-C, triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

The study did not look at natural sugars found in fruit and fruit juices, only added sugars and caloric sweeteners.
