Ex Pharma Sales Rep Says Big Pharma Only Interested In Profits, Not Health

Gwen Olsen, an ex-pharmaceutical sales representative, is using her personal experience and insider knowledge to turn the tables on Big Pharma and tell people the disturbing and disheartening truth about the highly corrupt industry: it’s only after the money, not the health of its patients. Gwen, a 2007 Human Rights Award recipient, is a dedicated mental health activist, public speaker, and writer committed to child and mental health advocacy; her specialties include promoting the cessation of America’s over medication of its children and teens. It’s hard to imagine that this same woman was once a successful pharmaceutical sales rep for more than 15 years, working for many of the industry’s big name manufacturers. “We (were) being trained to misinform people,” said Gwen.

Now on a personal, passionate quest to wake up as many people as possible to the deception of the pharmaceutical industry, Gwen’s research emphasizes her concerns about the increasingly prevalent use of prescription drugs and the deadly effects that these drugs can have. “There is no such thing as a safe drug,” said Gwen in a video interview.

Gwen’s astounding admissions in another video interview on Natural News dispels the myth that Big Pharma is in the business of healing or helping cure disease — instead, the industry is out to regulate illness, manage symptoms, and keep people trapped in a lethal cycle of chemical dependency, says Gwen.

In the video, Gwen explains that drugs — psychiatric drugs in particular — are meant to encourage people to remain customers of the pharmaceutical industry. After all, if Big Pharma intended to help cure disease, they would be putting themselves out of business.

“I don’t want people thinking that I am a conspiracy theorist, because in fact, there is no theory behind what I’m telling you, it’s all provable… what I’m saying is provable is, the pharmaceutical industry doesn’t want to cure people,” said Gwen in the video.

The confessions of a Pharma veteran

The Rx Reformer recently released a book, Confessions of an Rx Drug Pusher, which provides considerable insider knowledge of the serious dangers that lie within the game of the pharmaceutical industry and the disinformation that has jeopardized lives. Her book presents many admissions, some deeply personal, of what she discovered and observed throughout her career with Big Pharma, during which she was encouraged to minimize the side effects of the drugs she was selling when speaking to doctors.

Confessions of an Rx Drug Pusher is a strikingly candid and much-needed wake-up call about the flawed U.S. health care system, which is — with good reason — currently ranked last among 19 industrialized nations worldwide. You can read more about the book on Gwen’s site: http://www.gwenolsen.com

As Gwen’s book reveals to readers, more than 180,000 people die annually from the effects of legal drugs. “By the time a drug is approved and it hits the general population, we don’t even know 50% of the side effects involved,” said Gwen. In the same interview, Gwen explains that there is no medical evidence required for psychiatrists who wish to prescribe their patients drugs. This broadens the potential patient population considerably, allowing Big Pharma a lucrative advantage over an increasingly diseased and medicated public.

How the Rx Reformer came into existence

Gwen’s self-proclaimed calling as the “Rx Reformer” evolved not only from extensive personal experiences obtained during the years she spent working for major drug companies, but a shocking event that occurred within her own family.

The health of Gwen’s niece, Megan Blanchard, a bright pre-med student, quickly deteriorated through the onset of drug-induced addiction, withdrawal, mental illness, and depression. This painful suffering resulted in Meg’s unfortunate and tragic suicide, and Gwen quickly realized that her niece was not the first to painfully suffer from the consequences of doctor prescribed pharmaceuticals, nor would she be the last. In her book, Gwen writes: “Compassion is what Meg really needed, not more drugs.”

“There are thousands and thousands of people like that out there — and they need a voice,” said Gwen. “I serve as that voice.”

Gwen’s disillusionment with the industry — her anger at the immense deceit and misinformation she witnessed taking place within the profitable alliance between medical doctors and Big Pharma — led her to get out of pharmaceutical sales and pursue a new vocation: spreading truth.

“I had been used in the game, I literally was the one at the front lines, harming people — unintentionally — but I was responsible, and I carry a burden for that now,” said Gwen.

Gwen has now made it her moral obligation, or what she has labeled her “spiritual calling,” to educate others on what she learned the hard way about the abundance of harmful drugs being given to a credulous population.

TSA Lied: Agency Still Molesting Young Children After Promising Officials It Would Stop

After twice announcing that full-body pat downs would no longer apply to children under 12 years of age, John Pistole, Administrator of the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA), has officially been exposed as a liar. Just last week, the TSA molested and terrorized a six-year-old boy en route to Disneyland with his parents, which caused the boy to cry and say to his parents that he no longer wanted to go on the trip.

Back in November, Pistole made an appearance on NBC’s TODAY Show in an attempt to quell outcry about the TSA’s invasive new procedures. At that time, he stated that the agency “heard the concerns that have been expressed and agree that children under 12 should not receive that pat down.”

After making this announcement, however, the TSA continued to grope young children anyway, including the infamous pat down of the eight-month-old baby at Kansas City International Airport.

Again in June, after being called upon by Congress to address the discrepancy between his statements and what was actually taking place, Pistole made another announcement concerning young children receiving pat downs — except this time he insinuated that they would, in fact, still be receiving them.

However, he added a quip that “repeated efforts” would be made to not necessarily have to use pat downs on young children, whatever that means. These statements were made before lawmakers in the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee.

So after first announcing that pat downs would not apply to young children, Pistole continued to allow them to occur anyway. Then roughly eight months later, Pistole changed his story in response to further outcry, and claimed that young children would still be subjected to pat downs if they triggered “screening anomalies” or other “security concerns,” which represents a complete contradiction to his initial statements about pat downs.

Even Pistole’s most recent statements have been shown to be false, as an innocent young boy flying out of Washington’s SeaTac airport near Seattle was recently fondled by TSA agents after passing problem-free through the X-ray screening machine. Even though there were no “screening anomalies” or other “security concerns,” agents decided to target the young boy, and later claimed that they did so because he was carrying a harmless video game device.

“They just treated him like he’s a terrorist,” said the boy’s father, Alex Long, to KING 5 News in Seattle. “He’s a six-year-old boy.” The family has filed an official complaint against the agency for the gross violation.

Based on the false statements he twice made before lawmakers, and once in front of the entire world, concerning pat downs for children, Pistole can legitimately be charged for perjury and obstruction of justice, according to a recent InfoWars report. We can only hope that somebody actually will, and that justice will be served.

How to Protect Your Mobile Phone and Computer From Illegal Police Searches

The U.S. Constitution is clear about the issue of privacy. In fact, the Fourth Amendment states, in part, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated…”

With that in mind, it’s safe to say it’s more than just a little disturbing to know that, in certain circumstances, police can search your cell phone and computer(s), even if you don’t want them to and even if they don’t yet have a warrant to do so.

The good news is, someone out there has recognized the problem and has taken steps to help you protect that vast amount of data you have stored on your smart phone or laptop.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation, long defenders of electronic rights, has written a legal guide designed to help you better understand your rights and, more importantly, when police can – and cannot – legally confiscate and search your personal electronic devices.

“In the heat of the moment, it can be hard to remember what your rights are and how to exercise them,” says EFF Senior Staff Attorney Marcia Hofmann. “Sometimes police can search your computer whether you like it or not, but sometimes they can’t. We wrote this guide to help you tell the difference and to empower you to assert your rights when the police come knocking.”

Adds EFF Staff Attorney Hanni Fakhoury, “With smart phones, tablet computers, and laptops, we carry around with us an unprecedented amount of sensitive personal information.

“That smart phone in your pocket right now could contain email from your doctor or your kid’s teacher, not to mention detailed contact information for all of your friends and family members,” Fakhoury continued. “Your laptop probably holds even more data — your Internet browsing history, family photo albums, and maybe even things like an electronic copy of your taxes or your employment agreement. This is sensitive data that’s worth protecting from prying eyes.”

According to a summary of full EFF legal guide:

· Always say “no” when police ask if they can search your server, personal computer or cell phone because if you give them permission to search, they don’t need a warrant – even to enter your home;

· If police tell you they have a search warrant, ask to see it because you have a right to;

· Make sure police are only searching the areas outlined in the warrant;

· Be silent – you don’t have to help the police or answer their questions, and that means you don’t have to give them your encryption keys or passwords;

· If you do decide to talk, don’t lie because lying to the police is a crime;

· Finally, if you can consult with a lawyer before police conduct a search or even just talk to you, that’s ideal.

This guide is extremely helpful in this digital age when being secure in our “papers” and effects now includes our data-filled electronic devices. Know your rights; that is your best protection.

Bernanke Fights Ron Paul In Congress: ‘Gold Isn’t Money’

Chairman Ben Bernanke faced-off with Fed-hating Representative Ron Paul during his monetary policy report to Congress on Wednesday. The head of the Fed was forced to respond to accusations of enriching already rich corporations while failing to help Main Street, while he was pushed on his views on gold. “Gold isn’t money,” Bernanke said. (See video below).

While most of Bernanke’s reports to Congress serve politicians to pursue their own agendas by gearing the Chairman towards their issues, with Republican Rep. Bacchus talking of the unsustainability of Medicaid and Rep. Frank (D, Mass.) asking about the need to raise the debt limit without cutting spending, it was a stand-off between Bernanke and Ron Paul that took all the attention. (Read Apocalyptic Bernanke: Raise The Debt Ceiling Or Else).

Rep. Ron Paul, Republican for Texas, asked Bernanke why a capital injection of more than $5 trillion “hasn’t done much” to help the consumer, who makes up about two-thirds of GDP in the U.S., and prop up the economy, while it helped boost corporate profits. “You could’ve given $17,000 to each citizen,” Ron Paul claimed.

Bernanke, clearly on the defensive, told Rep. Ron Paul that his institution hadn’t spent a single dollar, rather, the Fed has been a “profit center” according to the Chairman, returning profits to the federal government. As Bernanke began to sermon Rep. Paul on the history of the Fed (“we are here to provide liquidity [in abnormal situations],” the Chairman said), he was interrupted.

“When you wake up in the morning, do you think about the price of gold,” Rep. Paul asked. After pausing for a second, Bernanke responded, clearly uncomfortable. that he paid much attention to the price of gold, only to be interrupted once again.

“Gold’s at about $1,580 [an ounce] this morning, what do you think of the price of gold?” asked Rep. Paul. A stern-faced Bernanke responded people bought it for protection and was once again cut-off, with Ron Paul once again on the offensive.

“Is gold money?” he asked. Clearly bothered, Bernanke told the representative “no, gold is not money, it’s an asset. Treasuries are an asset, people hold them, but I don’t think of them as money,” said Bernanke.

Rep. Ron Paul again jumped in, noting the long history of gold being used as money, and then asked Bernanke why people didn’t hold diamonds, clearly hinting at his fiat money criticism of the U.S. monetary system. The Fed Chairman told Rep. Paul it was nothing more than tradition, and, as he was attempting to develop his argument, Rep. Ron Paul quickly asked the acting authority of the House of Representative’s Committee on Financial Services, Rep. Bacchus, to excuse him for exceeding his time, as he returned the floor to the Committee. (Read Bernanke To Rep. Paul Ryan: QE2 Created 600,000 Jobs).

The interesting exchange served as one of the few times Bernanke has been publicly pushed off his comfort zone by an elected official. Rep. Ron Paul brought up the issues that he’s famous for, namely, a sort of allegiance between the Fed and the nation’s most powerful institutions, the illusion of fiat money, and the gold standard. Bernanke, angered and bothered, had no option but to respond. (Read Bernanke’s Contradiction: Minutes Reveal QE3 Talk And Exit Strategy).

Dollar Falls Sharply

Reuters

By: Steven C. Johnson

The dollar fell against most major currencies on Wednesday after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said the central bank could resort to more monetary stimulus if a sluggish U.S. economy weakens further.

That pushed the euro near $1.42, moving it further from the prior session’s four-month low beneath $1.39 and on track for its best day since mid-January.

Surprisingly swift Chinese growth data also helped divert attention, at least temporarily, from a worsening euro zone debt crisis after Fitch Ratings said an ambitious Italian deficit reduction plan would help stabilize its credit rating.

“The comments from Bernanke and Fitch amount to a double whammy for the dollar and a boost for the euro and riskier assets. It’s all positive for risk,” said Brian Dolan, chief strategist at Forex.com in Bedminster, New Jersey.

In testimony before a House of Representatives committee, Bernanke said: “The possibility remains that the recent economic weakness may prove more persistent than expected and that deflationary risks might re-emerge, implying a need for additional policy support.

The Fed ended its most recent asset-purchase program in June. Traders said another round of easing would flood the financial system with more money and encourage investors to reach for higher-yielding currencies and assets.

Major U.S. stock indexes rose more than 1 percent and gold hit a record high. The euro was last at $1.4177, up 1.4 percent, after touching $1.4193 on trading platform EBS. It also rose 1.8 percent against the yen.

The high-yielding, commodity-sensitive Australian and New Zealand dollars rose sharply.

Fitch’s remarks eased worries about Italy, which saw its borrowing costs soar this week for fear a default in Greece would hurt European banks and strain other countries’ finances.

Italy is considered especially vulnerable, as it has the euro zone’s second-largest debt-to-output ratio, which would become harder to finance with higher borrowing costs.

Still, some analysts said markets remained anxious. European leaders, set to convene an emergency meeting on Friday, have yet to agree on a second Greek bailout.

“I’d call this a short-term respite,” said Firas Askari, head of FX trading at BMO Capital Markets. “If we don’t hear anything substantial from Europe by the weekend, people will be back to shorting the euro next week.”

In the options market, one-month risk reversals were elevated in favor of euro puts — options to sell the currency, with plenty of event risks ahead, including the results of stress tests on euro zone banks due on Friday.

Reflecting that unease, the yen soared against the euro and hit its highest level against the dollar since Japan’s March earthquake as investors unwound risky trades funded with yen.

The dollar was last at 78.98 yen, up 0.3 percent, not far from its 78.481 four-month low hit on EBS earlier in the global session.

That brought warnings from top Japanese officials worried that a strengthening yen will hurt Japan’s fragile economy, raising the possibility authorities could intervene to weaken the currency.

The dollar fell to a fresh record trough of 0.81939 Swiss francs after Bernanke’s testimony, and Askari said markets were also on edge about a pending deadline to lift the U.S. debt ceiling.

“We still have not seen the political will in either Europe or the United States to resolve the key issues,” Askari said, which makes positioning for currency investors difficult.

“With currencies, it’s hard to be short everything. The Swiss franc is appreciated, but even Swiss banks won’t be immune from a meltdown in Europe,” he said.

U.S. Senator Wants to Probe Murdoch for Possible US Phone-Hacking

International Business Times

A powerful American Senator wants to investigate Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. to determine if the phone-hacking scandal has stretched across the water from Britain to the U.S.

The Daily Telegraph of the UK reported that Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), a Senate committee chairman, has”serious questions” regarding whether or not News Corp “has broken United States law”.

The Senator’s demand for a probe could potentially have extremely dramatic repercussions on Murdoch’s media empire and legal liabilities.

Rockefeller, who is chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee and great-grandson of the 19th century tycoon John D. Rockefeller, said in a statement: “The reported hacking by News Corporation newspapers against a range of individuals – including children – is offensive and a serious breach of journalistic ethics. This raises serious questions about whether the company has broken US law, and I encourage the appropriate agencies to investigate to ensure that Americans have not had their privacy violated.”

Rockefeller added: “I am concerned that the admitted phone hacking in London by the News Corp. may have extended to 9/11 victims or other Americans. If they did, the consequences will be severe.”

The Senate and House of Representatives has already been asked to investigate if News Corp. has been hacking the voice-mail messages of American citizens, raising the specter of Murdoch and his company having violated US laws.

Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), told reporters: “It’s hard to imagine that the same things [phone-hacking] have not been happening in the United States. Republicans are very tied to Murdoch but not at the expense of constituencies of Americans such as terror victims and soldiers.”

Kevin Zeese, a lawyer acting for the group ProtectOurElections.org, told reporters: “Rupert Murdoch moved to the US and became an American citizen in 1985 in order to take advantage of our laws.”

Apparently US Congress is watching for developments in Britain before considering taking any action on this side of the Atlantic against Murdoch.

“We’re keeping an eye on the situation, but are not planning on looking into it at this time,” said Jodi Seth, press secretary of Senator John Kerry, chairman of the Senate sub-committee on communications.

“For now, all that is certain is that there was hacking in Britain, which is outside of our jurisdiction.”

The chief executive officer of Dow Jones, a News Corp. subsidiary, is none other than Les Hinton, a former executive of News International, the UK subsidiary that owned the now-defunct News of the World newspaper (which was at the center of the scandal when it broke). Robert Thomson, the Wall Street Journal editor, was also part of News International.

The Sun Doesn’t Give You Cancer, Sunscreens Do

July 13, 2011 by KT

Summertime is here and some of you are still slathering on sunscreen even though you know how dangerous it is for your health.  Sunscreens cause cancer, hormonal imbalances, and other health problems. The sun does not give you cancer, sunscreens do.

Let me give you the evidence. If you look at the equator, where the sun is the strongest, the people who live there have virtually no skin cancer.  The highest rates of skin cancer are in the regions farthest away from the equator.  The people that get the least amount of sun are those who get skin cancer.  Those who use the most sunscreens get the most skin cancer. Those are the facts.  Yes, there are a small percentage of people that are in the sun without sunscreens that developed skin cancer. I’m not denying that, but the industry would lead you to believe that’s the majority. No, it’s very rare.  Somebody without sunscreen, who is in the sun all day, will get sunburn. You are dummy if you do that, but it does not lead to skin cancer, with some rare exception.  Why?  The sun is good for you because it produces vitamin D, which prevents cancer.  The sun also goes into your eye, provided you don’t have sunglasses on.

If you ever see me outside, I very rarely wear sunglasses.  Sometimes when I am driving, I’ll wear them to reduce glare, but generally I want the sun on my eye because the sunrays go through and hit the optic nerve and it will then stimulate metabolism, stimulate the body burning fat, releases endorphins, balance your hormones, and has tremendous health benefits. Once you put sunglasses on, you cause all types of problems.

How To Exercise At Your Desk To Stay Healthy

Daily Mail

By Sophie Borland

Forget early morning jogs or lunchtime trips to the gym.

Office workers who want to lose weight should stand up while talking on the phone and walk over to speak to colleagues rather than emailing them, according to official advice.

The Government has drawn up workplace exercise guidelines to tackle concerns that most of us are spending too much time sitting down.

And it recommends that desk-bound staff carry out ‘office work-outs’ to increase activity, fight obesity and improve health.

This could include taking the stairs rather than waiting for the lift and cycling or walking to work.

Staff are also advised to stand up every 30 to 40 minutes when talking on the phone to break up the amount of time they spend sitting down.
