“Mike Adams is the real deal and he hits it out of the ball-bark with this article.”  –KTRN

When I read a story yesterday about an 89-year-old woman being water-boarded by nursing home staff over an argument about ice cream, I knew something terrible was amiss across the American landscape. Spontaneous acts of tyranny have been cropping up lately like cancer tumors: a food tyrant in Nevada raids a farm picnic and orders everyone to destroy their food; student protesters in California get pepper-sprayed by thuggish cops who clearly enjoy causing pain and suffering; and now nursing home staffers torture their own resident using techniques borrowed from Guantanamo Bay.

I watched all this with a sense of sadness and disgrace for the human race. And then a realization hit me like a sledgehammer…

People are only following by example
These random acts of tyranny aren’t really random acts at all. They are the infantile acting-out of behaviors the childish American public has witnessed being demonstrated by their “leaders.” The TSA sexually molesting air travelers isn’t just a violation of fundamental human rights — it’s also a demonstration to the mindless masses that this is now “normal” behavior in society, you see.

So as the masses observe Big Government reaching down their own pants, they now get the message that it’s okay to sexually molest little boys at sports stadiums, or that it’s okay to take children away from parents through C.P.S. and then rape them as part of child relocation “processing” procedures.

When the American people see George Bush set up secret military prisons and condone waterboarding torture techniques, they called for Obama to stop the practice. Obama promised he would, and then not long after becoming President, he expanded Gitmo and actually presided over an increase in funding for the military and all its secret torture facilities.

The message to the American people? If Obama supports it, then torture must be okay. After all, he won a Nobel Peace Prize, so “peace” must be something that can be achieved through torture. Thus, we should not be at all surprised when an 89-year-old woman gets water-boarded in a nursing home. After all, those staffers are only doing to her what they’ve watched the U.S. leaders do to other human beings, too. (And yet, for some reason, the nursing home staff were arrested while all the high-level government operatives who engage in the exact same torture techniques are never even questioned…)

This phenomenon of everyday American people mirroring the behavior of federal “authorities” who act as tyrants needed a name, and as I began to ponder this issue, the name came to me in a flash:

I’m calling this phenomenon Trickle-Down Tyranny.

Monsanto Partners With USAID To Push GM Corn In Nepal

“The criminals at Monsanto won’t quit.  And neither will we.”  –KTRN

The southeast Asian country of Nepal is once again having to fight against foreign interests that are trying to take over its agricultural system. Biotechnology giant Monsanto apparently has its sights set on bringing genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) to this sliver of a country just north of India, and it is allegedly working with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), a so-called humanitarian group, and officials in Nepal to make it happen.

USAID issued a statement on Sept. 13, 2011, saying that it had partnered with Nepal’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoACs) and Monsanto to “promote hybrid maize (corn) seeds among 20,000 farmers of Chitwan, Nawalparasi and Kavre districts and provide training to them.” Media across Nepal quickly picked up on the story, and massive public outcry ensued.

GMOs are not widely cultivated in Nepal, and the country has always taken a very cautious approach to adopting them. In fact, when it was discovered that some GMO ingredients had potentially already contaminated the nation’s food supply back in 2003, government officials quickly made precautionary recommendations at the time to require GMO labeling on all food items.

Egypt’s Secret Police Renames Itself “Homeland Security”

Egypt’s infamous state security apparatus, notorious for spying on political activists and torturing dissidents, has renamed itself “homeland security,” presumably in homage to its American namesake, which has also been used as a tool of political repression.

As part of the re-branding of dictatorship in Egypt, the same security force implicated in the imprisonment and torture of anti-Mubarak activists is busy reorganizing itself while maintaining intimidation and spying campaigns targeted against parliamentary candidates by bugging phone calls and harassing prominent critics of the ruling military regime’s bloody crackdown on protesters.

“After some initial moves to purge the security forces, attempts at systemic reform were halted, say analysts and political observers. Under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior, the 100,000-strong state security service has been renamed homeland security and personnel moved around,” the Financial Times reports today (emphasis mine).

Should we be concerned that a dictatorship which refuses to bow to the will of the people and allow democratic elections to proceed while engaging in savage attacks on demonstrators is re-naming itself after America’s foremost post-9/11 federal agency?

Like the Egyptian secret police, the Department of Homeland Security has reinvented its role to serve as a tool of political repression in recent years. Under the Federal Protective Service (FPS), the DHS tracks the political activities of peaceful advocacy groups. The FPS was seen arresting photographers in Portland last week during an OWS rally. In 2004, the FPS arrested a veteran for the crime of complaining to his local VA office in Des Moines.

Melbourne Woman, Crippled By Gardasil, Leads Class Action Against Merck

“Another example of the evil drug companies not caring that their products cause so much illness. Gardasil is a joke.  How can something that produces seizures, paralysis, and blindness be called safe and effective?” –KTRN

One more woman wishes she could be “one less” person to have received the Merck Gardasil vaccine. In an article in The Herald Sun, Brigid O’Connell reports that a 28-year-old Melbourne woman experienced an auto-immune and neurological attack after receiving a Gardasil jab in July of 2008. A group of seven other women, one who suffered a miscarriage purportedly due to the Gardasil injection, are contemplating joining the court case.

According to O’Connell, the woman’s doctors originally diagnosed her with multiple sclerosis and later recanted this diagnosis and declared that it was a neurological reaction to the Gardasil vaccine. After receiving the injection, she was afflicted with convulsions. Racked by excruciating neck and back pain, she also became unable to walk. Due to the disruption of her life which lasted over two years, the young woman is hoping to be compensated for her medical expenses and lost income.

Body Count Escalating

Meanwhile, in the U.S., the Gardasil body count continues to climb. Barbara Hollingsworth reports in The Washington Examiner that between Sept. 1, 2010 and Sept. 15, 2011, 26 new deaths and many more severe adverse reactions were reported in patients receiving Gardasil injections. The adverse reactions included seizures, paralysis, and blindness.

Doctors Silenced

Doctors who dare to speak out about Gardasil are being silenced. According to an article by Norma Erickson, Dr. Sin Hang Lee was aware of some studies that had been submitted to the FDA before any HPV vaccines were approved. These studies demonstrated that there was a substantial increase in pre-cancerous lesions for those who had been exposed to vaccine-relevant genotypes of HPV before receiving Gardasil or Cervarix injections. In order to try to protect those people who were thinking about getting an HPV vaccination, Dr. Lee offered his HPV genotyping test to U.S. medical consumers so they might avoid that potential risk. Dr. Lee’s admirable actions were rewarded by him losing his medical staff privileges at Milford Hospital.

Sex Fears Used To Peddle Vaccines

Dr. Diane Harper, who was instrumental in developing the HPV vaccine, says that unrealistic promises are being made about the jab. According to The Kansas City Star, Harper states that “fear is what sells.” Dr. Douglass quips in The Douglass Report, “When it comes to risk, however, the sky’s the limit: HPV shots have been linked to thousands of horrific problems, including a debilitating nerve disorder and dozens of deaths — and the feds were caught red-handed last year trying to cover them up.”

Militarization Of Campus Police

Huff Post

“Here is a very good article written by a professor at UC Davis, where the campus police acted like a gang of thugs by pepper spraying peaceful protesters. What has happened to the United States? The founding fathers have got to be so disappointed in us.” –KTRN

Yesterday, police at UC Davis attacked seated students with a chemical gas.

I teach at UC Davis and I personally know many of the students who were the victims of this brutal and unprovoked assault. They are top students. In fact, I can report that among the students I know, the higher a student’s grade point average, the more likely it is that they are centrally involved in the protests.

This is not surprising, since what is at issue is the dismantling of public education in California. Just six years ago, tuition at the University of California was $5357. Tuition is currently $12,192. According to current proposals, it will be $22,068 by 2015-2016. We have discussed this in my classes, and about one third of my students report that their families would likely have to pull them out of school at the new tuition. It is not a happy moment when the students look around the room and see who it is that will disappear from campus. These are young people who, like college students everywhere and at all times, form some of the deepest friendships they will have in their lives.

This is what motivates students who have never taken part in any sort of social protest to “occupy” the campus quad. And indeed, there were students who were attacked with chemical agents by robocops who were engaging in their first civic protest.

Since the video of the assault has gone viral, I will assume that most of you have seen the shocking footage. Let’s take a look at the equally outrageous explanations and justifications that have come from UC Davis authorities.

UC Davis Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi sent a letter to the university last night. Chancellor Katehi tells us that:

Stocks Plunge As Debt Talks Near Collapse

“Take that, Wall Street.” –KTRN

The Dow is closing down 249 points as a congressional committee appears close to admitting defeat on its deficit-cutting task.

The group was supposed to reduce the deficit by $1.2 trillion over the next decade. Its apparent failure signals that Washington remains gridlocked over crucial fiscal issues.

The stalemate might trigger harsh spending cuts and could cause another downgrade of the nation’s credit rating. It also appears less likely that Congress will extend a payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits.

Panel Set To Fail To Cut Deficit $1.2 Trillion

“Another example at the effectiveness of the US government. Great job!” –KTRN

The imminent collapse of a special deficit-reduction supercommittee on Monday promises to set off yet another round of the Washington blame game as the panel officially admits failure in its quest to sop up at least $1.2 trillion in government red ink over the coming decade.

The bipartisan 12-member panel is sputtering to a close after two months of talks in which key members and top congressional leaders never got close to bridging a fundamental divide over how much to raise taxes. The budget deficit forced the government to borrow 36 cents of every dollar it spent last year.

Several panel members attended a last-ditch meeting at midday and said there might be further sessions later. But there was no indication of a breakthrough, though panel members didn’t want to officially give up.

“Both sides are feeling angst and greater angst at the possibility of no agreement, and so they’re working harder, more creatively, to see what could be accomplished,” one panel member, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., said. “That’s happening on both sides.”

Congressional aides said they expected a formal statement within a few hours announcing the panel’s failure to reach a compromise.

In spite of agreement among Democrats and Republicans on the urgent need to address the nation’s spiraling debt problem — the national debt topped $15 trillion last week — Republicans and Democrats appeared to have never gotten particularly close, at least in the official exchanges of offers that were leaked to the media.

“There is one sticking divide. And that’s the issue of what I call shared sacrifice,” said panel co-chair Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“The wealthiest Americans who earn over a million a year have to share too. And that line in the sand, we haven’t seen Republicans willing to cross yet,” she said.

Egypt’s Brutal Military Junta is Supported by the Obama Administration

“One dictator leaves and another steps in.  Maybe we should listen to Ron Paul and stop getting involved with other country’s messes.  We have enough to worry about here.”  –KTRN

Fresh off the back of bombing Libya under the guise of “humanitarian intervention” while calling on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down over mistreatment of protesters, the Obama administration has taken a noticeably different approach to Egypt’s brutal military junta that is now busy torturing and killing demonstrators on the streets of Cairo.

“Clashes have again erupted in the Egyptian capital as security forces continue their efforts to clear Cairo’s Tahrir Square of protesters. At least 33 people are reported to have died since the violence began on Saturday with hundreds more injured,” reports BBC News.

The demonstrators are incensed at the ruling military council’s failure to relinquish power ten months after Hosni Mubarak was ousted. Members of the council have openly admitted their plan to maintain overall control even after Parliamentary elections take place later this month.

“The legislature will remain in a subordinate role similar to Mr. Mubarak’s former Parliament, they said, with the military council appointing the prime minister and cabinet,” the New York Times reported last month.

The realization that one form of dictatorship has merely been replaced by another has prompted the unrest to spread to other cities, including Alexandria, Suez and Aswan.

However, while crackdowns on Libyan rebel fighters, who were still being described as “protesters” by the Obama administration and the western media even as they commandeered fighter jets and fired rocket-propelled grenade missiles, were robustly condemned, just as Syrian security forces have been similarly scorned for their treatment of militants in an unfolding civil war, the silence with regard to Egypt has been deafening.

Indeed, if anything the Obama administration has sided with the ruling military junta that refuses to hand over power to a democratically elected government and has responded to demonstrations by murdering protesters and carrying out brutal beatings.

The Surveillance Catalog – Where Governments Get Their Tools

“Big Brother can watch you whenever it wants.  Pretty scary when you think about.  Who needs privacy.”  –KTRN

Documents obtained by The Wall Street Journal open a rare window into a new global market for the off-the-shelf surveillance technology that has arisen in the decade since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The techniques described in the trove of 200-plus marketing documents include hacking tools that enable governments to break into people’s computers and cellphones, and “massive intercept” gear that can gather all Internet communications in a country.

The documents—the highlights of which are cataloged and searchable here—were obtained from attendees of a secretive surveillance conference held near Washington, D.C., last month.

Obama Uses Autopen To Keep Government Open

“Obama is clearly on auto-pilot mode. He’s doing what he’s told.” –KTRN

President Obama on Friday turned to mechanics to get him out of a jam, using an autopen to sign an emergency spending bill Congress sent him late Thursday.

Mr. Obama was traveling in Indonesia as part of a week-long trip to the Pacific Rim, but needed to approve the stopgap spending bill before midnight in order to keep the government open.

A White House aide confirmed the president did use an autopen, which is a mechanical device used to apply a copy of someone’s signature.

The bill passed the House Thursday afternoon and the Senate Thursday evening, and was sent to the White House at 8:58 p.m., which meant there was probably enough time to ship the legislation to Indonesia for his signature.

There is a precedent for that course of action. In 1984 President Reagan had a bill flown to China so he could sign it in time to keep bankruptcy courts operating, and in 1999 President Clinton had a measure flown to Turkey so he could sign it.

But government lawyers began to wonder at the time whether that expense was necessary, and during President George W. Bush’s administration they released an opinion that an autopen could be used.
