UN Asked To Block Investigations Into Illegal Killings And Torture

Two legal rights groups recently requested that the United Nations conduct an investigation into allegations targeting officials in the United States and Spain who reportedly conspired to block criminal probes into the authorization of illegal killings and torture of suspected terrorists during the Bush administration.

The request was made by the Center for Constitutional Rights, based out of New York, along with the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights out of Berlin.

According to McClatchy, the request was made to the United Nations’ special rapporteur for judicial independence.

The two groups say that the United States interfered with the Spanish justice system in three separate criminal cases and they asked the UN to demand that both the Spanish and American governments cease their meddling in court cases.

I think this is pretty much a pipe dream, given that the United Nations is based in the United States, has incredibly close ties with the American government, and is far from the legitimate, accountable, and representative organization some make it out to be.

All we need to do is look at their inaction over the breaches of the Geneva Conventions carried out by the Bush and Obama administrations, the illegal invasion of Iraq, the invasion of Libya which left unknown numbers of civilians dead while breaching the Constitution of the United States of America, just to name a few examples.

The United Nations has no interest in justice unless it serves their needs, as we have seen with their deafening silence over the many illegal assassinations carried out by the United States in recent history.

“When arguably the leading human rights country in the world is engaged in torture and then gives impunity to those torturers, it sends a pretty bad message,” said the President Emeritus of the Center for Constitutional Rights, Michael Ratner.

I think Ratner’s assertion is laughably misguided, given that the United States is far from “the leading human rights country in the world” and I find it to be a hardly arguable point.

Sure, there are worse countries out there, but I would very much like to debate the assertion that the United States leads the world in human rights with Ratner or anyone else who genuinely believes this to be true.

Convert The USA Monetary System To Gold

By David Redick

The US economy continues to decline, despite the government bailouts and stimulus programs since 2008. The problem is that these measures only prop-up a system of fake money and crony-capitalism that was doomed from its start, and must be replaced.

Key events which started this decline were creation of the Federal Reserve System (Fed) in 1913, FDR’s ‘big government’ projects and confiscation of private gold starting in 1933, and Nixon’s termination of the right to redeem dollars for gold in 1971.

Both gold events were prompted by people and nations redeeming their paper dollars for gold when they feared (correctly) that the USA gold supply was getting low. Spending and debt have soared ever since because there is no limit imposed by gold redemption. This essay offers the monetary gold standard as the key solution, in parallel with reduced spending, and the end of Empire-USA and its wars for oil and control.

I have previously written (here) about the benefits of converting the USA to a free-market ‘gold as money’ monetary system. The primary cause of the ongoing economic decline of the US and Europe is fake money, which has been created out of thin air to fund excessive spending and debt. The desperate ‘patches’ and ‘bailouts’ used by the Fed have not solved the problem. The Eurozone suffers from the same problem, and the economies are dangerously ‘linked’ via the banks, and IMF. The bureaucrats are now considering a ‘world currency’ such as the IMF ‘Special Drawing Rights’ (SDR) to end the crash and keep their jobs. Sound money by a gold standard would be a far better solution!

The numbers are huge! On Jan. 22, 2012, TheDailyBell.com wrote:

We’ve estimated central banks – especially the US Fed – have probably backstopped the world’s financial system with funds in excess of US$50 trillion by now. That doesn’t sound like just a modest crisis to us. It wasn’t a real-estate crisis, either, but a crisis of central banking fiat money. It was ultimately a crisis of the dollar reserve system.

Our current system of fiat money (‘face value’ declared by government; with no intrinsic value) is operated by the unconstitutional Federal Reserve System (the Fed) to finance excessive government spending, wars, and bailouts to friends, while imposing loss of the dollar’s value (down 98% since the Fed started in 1913) on the people.

The free-market gold standard means gold is money, not just partial ‘backing’ for paper ‘money’. Gold is all or part of coins (a disc in the center), and paper notes (which would replace our Fed Notes) are redeemable for gold on demand. The requirement for gold redeemability of paper notes limits a mint’s (government or private) ability to create new money out of thin air. This would include competing coins and paper notes offered by private mints and the US Treasury. The Fed would be abolished. This money would only be marked by the weight and purity of gold it contains or represents, with no ‘names’ such as ‘dollar’. Prices would be in weight of gold (milligrams, etc.). History shows us this system always results in stable value of the money, and more peace (wars are expensive) and prosperity. Another lesson of history is that governments almost always ‘take over’ the monetary system and reduce or suspend redeemability so they can create money as needed.

Drowning In Hypocrisy

“The government is obviously out of control. Here is an article that helps explain why.”  –KTRN

The US government is so full of self-righteousness that it has become a caricature of hypocrisy. Leon Panetta, a former congressman who Obama appointed CIA director and now head of the Pentagon, just told the sailors on the USS Enterprise, an aircraft carrier, that the US is maintaining a fleet of 11 aircraft carriers in order to project sea power against Iran and to convince Iran that “it’s better for them to try to deal with us through diplomacy.

If it requires 11 aircraft carriers to deal with Iran, how many will Panetta need to project power against Russia and China? But to get on with the main point, Iran has been trying “to deal with us through diplomacy.” The response from Washington has been belligerent threats of military attack, unfounded and irresponsible accusations that Iran is making a nuclear weapon, sanctions and an oil embargo. Washington’s accusations echo Israel’s and are contradicted by Washington’s own intelligence agencies and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Why doesn’t Washington respond to Iran in a civilized manner with diplomacy? Really, which of the two countries is the greatest threat to peace?

Washington sends the FBI to raid the homes of peace activists and puts a grand jury to work to create a case against them for aiding a nebulous enemy by protesting Washington’s wars. The Department of Homeland Security unleashes goon cop thugs to brutalize peaceful Occupy Wall Street demonstrators. Washington fabricates cases against Bradley Manning, Julian Assange, and Tarek Mehanna that negate the First Amendment by equating free speech with terrorism and spying. Chicago mayor and former Obama White House chief-of-staff, Rahm Israel Emanuel, pushes an ordinance that outlaws public protests in the City of Chicago. The list goes on. And in the midst of it all Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other Washington hypocrites accuse Russia and China of stifling dissent.

Washington’s grotesque hypocrisy goes unremarked by the American “media” and in the debates for the Republican presidential nomination. The corrupt Obama “Justice” Department turns a blind eye while goon cop thugs commit gratuitous violence against the citizens who pay the goon cop thugs’ undeserved salaries.

But it is in the War Crimes Arena where Washington shows the greatest hypocrisy. The self-righteous bigots in Washington are forever rounding up heads of weak states whose countries were afflicted by civil wars and sending them off to be tried as war criminals. All the while Washington indiscriminately kills large numbers of civilians in six or more countries, dismissing its own war crimes as “collateral damage.” Washington violates its own law and international law by torturing people.

Elites Pushing Class Warfare is Just Another False Paradigm

Why is it when the rich super class speaks about class warfare, the downtrodden applaud? When billionaire Warren Buffett said, “There’s class warfare all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning,” the struggling middle class treated him like one of them, as if he’s on their side.

More recently, billionaire investor George Soros warned of a coming class war in the U.S. as reported by the Daily Beast, where he proudly points out that his prediction of riots in the streets has already begun.

With the Occupy movement’s beginnings having ties to funding by Soros, many believe him to be stoking this so-called class warfare. Although Soros denies directly funding the movement’s beginnings, his vast philanthropic contributions have far-reaching tentacles into many revolutions around the globe.

Even if we are to naively take Soros’ word that he was not involved in spurring these global revolutions, despite the evidence to the contrary, he clearly promotes the idea of class warfare with the political left cheering him as a crusader for good.

Conveniently, the Occupy movement has adopted the catchy but brainless “us versus the 1%” mantra as the rallying call for everyone in the 99% to blame their problems on the so-called rich 1%. It sounds a lot like stoking class warfare to me.

However, in order to instigate warfare there must be a crisis to cause enough pain to force people to arms, and the sides of good and evil must be defined. Soros does just that in the Daily Beast article where he says people “have reason to be frustrated and angry” at the cost of bailing out the financial system, and that ”the world faces one of the most dangerous periods of modern history—a period of evil.”

Of course, those statements are hard to argue with and calling the ruling class “evil” will resonate with the masses. But again, Soros is clearly in the ruling class 1%, so why would he, like Buffett, pretend they’re outsiders while stoking hatred toward themselves?

Helicopters To Buzz Downtown LA In Urban Warfare Drill

“It makes you wonder if they are getting ready for martial law.”  –KTRN

Joint military training exercises involving helicopters are being conducted in downtown LA all this week through Thursday with the police providing support, according to a statement issued by the LAPD.

As reported by CBS News, the LAPD statement says that the exercises, closed to the public, are “designed to ensure the military’s ability to operate in urban environments, prepare forces for upcoming overseas deployments, and meet mandatory training certification requirements.”

Training sites “have been carefully selected to ensure the event does not negatively impact the citizens of Los Angeles and their daily routine,” a department spokesperson said.

Police also noted that the training, which has been coordinated with local authorities, involves helicopters.

At time of writing we have not received any reports of military activity in downtown LA or the Greater Los Angeles area.

The exercise is yet another in a spate of recent military drills to hit heavily populated areas throughout the country.

Back in April last year, residents of Brickell, Miami witnessed at least three large Black Hawk-like helicopters conducting military exercises over their heads. Some initially believed it was a movie shoot.

Honeywell CEO: How I’d Fix The Economy

It was nearly 10 years ago when Dave Cote took the helm at Honeywell International. The company isn’t readily known to most consumers, but products from the Morris Township, NJ-based technology and manufacturing conglomerate are found almost everywhere – from home thermostats to turnout gear donned by New York City fire fighters.

When Cote took the job as CEO, the company was struggling. He turned down media requests, thinking “right now the last thing we need is me out there saying anything when we’ve got so much to fix,” he says. At the time, a third of the top 200 positions were open after an employee exodus. Under Cote, Honeywell grew from $22 billion in sales to about $37 billion today, and the company’s stock surged about 63%.

And with the company transformed, Cote has jumped into the media spotlight. Today he is one of the most outspoken deficit hawks in corporate America. The New Hampshire native visited Fortune’s office in New York City last week to talk about a range of topics – from how to manage a diverse company to doing business in China and India to how the U.S. can turn its fragile economy around. Below is an edited transcript.

You have all these disparate industrial businesses. How do you manage it?

One of the ways that we’ve tried to construct the company is so that there’s no product that’s so big that it requires my approval. I’ve always thought it was a bad position to be in as a company if you really had to bet that big on a product.

The way we’ve tried to construct the company is to create diversity of opportunity – whether it’s diversity in the products you provide, the geographies that you’re in, the services that you provide, or the new products that you’re developing. There’s little that I have to weigh in on like that – maybe occasionally – but really not all that much. I am able to devolve all of this to business leaders who understand what we’re looking for.

Monsanto Believes The Safety Of GMOs Does Not Need To Be Tested

By Ethan A. Huff

There is a growing body of scientific evidence which proves that genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) are inherently different from natural organisms, including the way the body processes them, as well as how the immune system responds to them. But Monsanto, the largest purveyor of GMOs in the world, believes that GMOs are no different than natural organisms, and that GMO testing is both needless and valueless.

In the “Why aren’t you running human clinical trials on GM crops?” section of Monsanto’s Food Safety page, the biotechnology giant explains its opinion that GMOs are “substantially equivalent” to natural organisms. According to Monsanto, since concentrations of proteins, carbohydrates, and other nutrient factors vary among natural crops, as well as among natural and GM crops, then these differences are automatically unimportant in light of GMO safety.

Furthermore, Monsanto claims that its injection of foreign DNA into its GM crops is also automatically safe because, get this, DNA is present in natural crops as well. Never mind that the injected DNA is foreign and unnatural, and is used to alter the entire genetic structure of GM crops — according to Monsanto, its unnatural DNA is automatically non-toxic because every other plant also has DNA. Case closed.

Using this same absurd illogic, injecting foreign animal DNA into a developing human baby, for instance, must also be safe because that baby contains DNA, right? Or how about drinking antifreeze, which is made of atoms, because your body is also made of atoms?

Based on Monsanto’s pseudoscientific nonsense, everythingcan be considered non-toxic and safe because it is all made of atoms, just like our bodies!

Video Game Addiction Is Real And The Government Loves It

January 25, 2012 by admin

By William Kitner

(KTRN Exclusive)  Video game addiction is a serious problem.  Don’t laugh, some people spend eight hours a day in front of their computers, pretending to be mighty warriors or wizards in fantasy on-line computer games every day.  The problem has gotten so bad in South Korea that the government there has had to step in to create laws keeping underage gamers from playing too long.  In July of 2011, a 21-year-old online-gaming addict was found dead in his home in Inchon, South Korea.  He would play virtually non-stop, and rarely slept or even left his room.  Two months prior to his death, he started complaining of difficulty in breathing but refused to seek help.  This isn’t the only case either.  In 2005, a 28-year-old man died from organ failure after playing for 50 hours straight.  He even lost his job because of his online-gaming habit.   But the sickest case has to do with a married couple from Suwon who let their baby starve to death after they were unable to get away from the game.   In the US, the problem is getting just as bad.  Author Ryan Van Cleave wrote a book called Unplugged: My Journey into the Dark World of Video Game Addiction. In the book, Ryan discusses his serious problem with on-line gaming.  He lost his job, family, and his life due to the World of Warcraft.  He even contemplated suicide one night as he stood on a bridge.  Quitting the game was not easy either ; he had legitimate withdrawal systems like shaking, cold sweats, anxiety, and sleepless nights.  When he called Blizzard Entertainment (the company that owns WOW), he pleaded with them to delete his characters forever.  But Blizzard refused – even after Cleave told them about his attempted suicide.  Apparently, making $15 a month from a man suffering is more important than helping him.  Blizzard’s excuse was that deleting the characters permanently  was virtually impossible with the massive back-up system they have in place (sounds fishy).

Have you ever played one of these on-line games?  It’s easy to get sucked into a virtual world where you get to run around as a powerful paladin – fighting for honor and justice, saving the day while making virtual gold and gaining in strength and power.   I personally had a slight problem with Warcraft too.  I often found myself playing six hours a day and not even realizing how much time I was spending on it – and for what?  At the end of the day, what is the reward?  What is the ultimate goal?  The kicker is that you don’t (and can’t) win these games.  They are always changing, evolving, and growing – there is no way to win them – you just keep playing and playing and playing.  Before you know it, you’ve lost your friends, wife, job, family, and kids.  You haven’t showered in three days and you never leave the house.  At this point, it’s no longer a game.  However, World of Warcraft isn’t the only culprit out there.  Many other games suck people in all the time – even cheesy ones like Farmville on Facebook.  It’s easy to get addicted to these games – don’t fall into the same trap as Ryan Van Cleave.   Once my account was hacked, I decided to no longer play the game.  It was turning into work.  It wasn’t fun.  Every time I logged on, I would look at the list of quests I had to complete and felt overwhelmed at all of the stuff I had to do – it was like going to work.  So I gave it up.  Don’t think for a second though that I haven’t thought of playing again – it’s crossed my mind from time to time but I know it’s just not worth it.

While video game addiction is a real problem, the people in charge love it.  It keeps the citizen’s  minds away from the real issues.  If you play video games for six to eight hours a day, you won’t have time to focus on issues of the world, you won’t stand up to protest the NDAA, and chances are you won’t follow the news or even care about the issues.  Your main focus will be earning more fake gold and gaining experience points.   These games dumb you down.  It keeps you docile, unfocused, and unmotivated.  It makes you even a bigger sheep than you already are.  In other words, playing video games all the time makes you stupid.  Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the occasional video game.  But if you’re not careful, it can easily spin out of control.  Why not gather a group of friends together to play Clue, or poker, or Monopoly instead?  It’s much more fun and you get to interact with human beings face to face.  Moderation is key  – even when playing video games.

Why not play classic arcade games instead?  It’s pretty impossible to get addicted to Ms. Pac man.  Plus, the only thing you’ll lose playing Donkey Kong is a quarter.

Drug Makers Keeping You Sick For Profit

Why are ineffective and dangerous drugs peddled by supposed ‘public health’ organizations in place of well-established natural solutions with virtually zero side effects? The truth of the matter is that drug makers simply would not profit if the world were to awaken to the plethora of free health-promoting substances that beat out over-priced pharmaceuticals and medical interventions. There would be no need for pharmaceutical manufacturers, phony ‘public health’ organizations peddling the latest ‘miracle’ drug, and certainly no research organizations feeding off the donations of good-hearted individuals.

You may think that this is an impossibility and that natural solutions simply do not compare to ‘scientifically proven’ pharmaceutical science. The truth of the matter is that scientific evidence is the very thing disproving the safety and effectiveness of pharmaceutical drugs as well as highlighting the surplus of beneficial properties associated with inexpensive and free vital nutrients.

It was recently revealed that cancer drugs, toted as the only choice among chemotherapy for many cancer sufferers by ‘public health’ groups, are actually causing massive tumors and subsequently killing the patient. The cancer drugs were found to not only be completely ineffective, but deadly. These are the same drugs that are sold for a premium price and considered to be scientifically validated.

Meanwhile, peer-reviewed research has found that a spice known as turmeric can reduce tumors by 81% naturally. Researchers found that curcumin (a derivative of turmeric) dramatically decreased brain tumors in 9 out of the 11 studies examined by 81 percent. Furthermore, there was no evidence of toxicity. Widely used as a spice in South Asian and Middle Eastern countries, turmeric is continually being pinpointed as an extremely potent anti-cancer solution. What’s more is the fact that turmeric is extremely inexpensive, and can be found around the globe — from Saudi Arabia to Kentucky.

This is just one example of scientific research validating natural alternatives while simultaneously pinpointing the extreme dangers associated with mainstream pharmaceuticals pushed as the only treatment by drug companies.
