Could your smart phone be the cause of your insomnia?

June 12, 2013 by admin

If you’re struggling to sleep at night, the answer could be closer than your think (hint, your bedside table). What are we talking about? A leading expert has revealed that electric lights – including on smartphones and tables – often play a key role in causing people’s bad sleeping patterns.

Disrupting the body’s natural rhythm, artificial lights affect chemicals in the brain and drive people to use stimulants like caffeine to stay awake longer. This news comes from Harvard academic Professor Charles Czeisler, who in a recent issue of the journal Nature called for research to help develop ‘behavioural and technical’ ways of counteracting the ill effects of artificial light on sleep.

A professor of sleep medicine, Charles Czeisler says the decline in the number of hours sleep we get per night is affecting public health in general, resulting in a greater risk of obesity, and even stroke, depression and heart disease.

It’s been found that exposure to LED lights, like those in phones and computers is ‘typically more disruptive’ than standard electric light bulbs, according to Professor Charles.

What does your eye color say about your health?

June 5, 2013 by admin

Iridologists have said that there are only two basic colors for the iris – blue and brown.

Perhaps this was so, but now there has been so much intermarriage of races in the world that we likely have a genetic mix of colors. Of course, we usually see the basically blue or brown iris, but there are irises, which we call “mixed” when it becomes obvious that in addition to the basic color there is a strong genetic influence of another color.

There are instances where it becomes very difficult to determine exactly which color is the true basic color. Also, drug settlements in the body can make the iris appear a color, which is different from its true and basic color.

The following are the basic German Iridology types. They are based on eye color. They relate somewhat to the primary colors and to the three aspects of health (physical, mental and spiritual).

FDA Recognizes Selenium For Its Powerful Health Benefits!

May 29, 2013 by admin

The FDA has recently given a further nod of recognition to the importance of selenium as an essential trace mineral. In April it proposed that selenium become an essential component of baby formula. At the moment selenium is added to all baby formula in the US but there are no required specific concentrations. If the proposal goes through there will be statutory guidelines for how much selenium there must be in baby formula. As the only source of food for bottle fed babies is their formula it is vital the levels are right and this is great news for raising the awareness of this vital trace mineral.

The understanding of the role of selenium to health has been steadily growing since the 1970s and there are now known to be at least 30 proteins in all of us that require selenium in their structure. Glutathione peroxidase described in Naturalcures.com’s recent article “Irritable ‘Bile’ Syndrome” by Denise King is an example of just one of these demonstrating its powerful antioxidant effects.
Another ‘selenoprotein’ is iodothyronine deiodinase which is an enzyme necessary to convert inactive thyroid hormone into its active form which then influences virtually every physiological process within each of us.

Evidence suggests that up to 90 percent of cancer research may be false!

May 22, 2013 by admin

The vast majority of the published scientific literature on cancer and cancer research is inherently flawed and non-reproducible, reveals a new review published online in the journal Nature. Researchers C. Glenn Begley and Lee Ellis found that a mere 11 percent of 53 papers on cancer published in reputable, peer-reviewed journals was solid, while the other 89 percent could not be reproduced, implying that it may be false or at the very least misleading.

Preclinical studies are the basis upon which the scientific community at large determines how best to develop treatments for disease, including potential new approaches to treating cancer. But such studies, though sure to contain some minor flaws from time to time, appear to be missing the boat in major ways on a regular basis. And the end result of this intrinsic failure is a cancer treatment system that is not only outdated but potentially completely misguided.

“The scientific community assumes that the claims in a preclinical study can be taken at face value – that although there might be some errors in detail, the main message of the paper can be relied on and the data will, for the most part, stand the test of time,” wrote the authors about their findings. “Unfortunately, this is not always the case.”

Stressed? Clenching your fist may be beneficial…

May 15, 2013 by admin

When I’m feeling stressed I head outside for a stroll and get some fresh air, but if you’re one of the many people who grab a stress-relieving ball and clench your fists, you’ll be thrilled to hear it may actually be beneficial – and not just for the stress!

It is believed the movements activate brain regions, which are key to the storing and recall of memories. Researchers in the US suggest that those who are short of a pen and paper should try the trick when attempting to commit a phone number or shopping list to memory.

So does it work? Click here to find out!
