(KTRN Exclusives) A common misconception among meat eaters is that vegetarians don’t get enough protein in their diet. If you watch the film Forks Over Knives, the experts interviewed will argue that many meat eaters are actually getting too much protein. In fact, protein is plentiful in the plant kingdom. So, if you choose not to eat meat, what are the best sources of protein? Note: not everything on this list is vegan.
Eggs are a great source of protein, mainly because it’s complete, meaning all of the essential amino acids are present. One egg has about six grams of quality protein. Some will argue that there is too much fat and cholesterol, but according to a study by the Harvard School of Public Health, there is no significant link between egg consumption and heart disease. In fact, according to one study, regular consumption of eggs may help prevent blood clots, stroke, and heart attacks. Plus, they contain the right kind of fat. One egg contains 5 grams of fat and only 1.5 grams of that is saturated. Eggs are also one of the only foods that contain natural vitamin D, but remember to eat the yolk, it’s in the egg for a reason. Nature would not have put it there otherwise. If you’re really concerned over the fat of the egg, make scrambled eggs using one full egg and 3 or 4 egg whites, that way you still get some of the health benefits of the yolk like B-12. Remember though, your eggs should either be organic or from free range chickens. In a perfect world, you would get them directly from the farm where you have met the farmers and their chickens. Factory farmed hens are tortured every day. Not to sound like an activist, but do some research of factory farming eggs and then decide if you really want to eat them.
Whey is another great source of protein. According to Dr. Axe, it’s a great protein for building muscle and strength. “It provides a more absorbable source of protein than any other source and is super-easy to digest.” Just one scoop of whey protein will give you around twenty to twenty-five grams of solid protein. Be sure to choose whey isolate over concentrate; it’s higher than concentrates in protein content which makes them lower in carbs, fat and lactose. It’s also really important that you not get your whey from companies that use artificial colors, sweeteners, or processed sugars. Try an unflavored whey and add fruits, organic cocoa powder, and stevia. Also try to make sure the whey comes from cows not treated with antibiotics or growth hormone.
Tofu has gotten some bad rap over the years due to the GMO soy industry. But if you’re eating organic, non GMO tofu, it’s quite a good source of protein. Like eggs, tofu is also a complete protein and is an excellent source of calcium and a very good source of iron. In addition, tofu is a good source of selenium, omega-3 fatty acids, phosphorus, copper, and magnesium. As with all foods, make sure you are buying the highest quality tofu, it must be organic and non GMO. Many health experts also argue that fermented soy like tempeh is considered to be even better and some say it’s the only form of soy you should eat. While there is much debate over soy and its health benefits, eating tofu a few days a week is a great way to get some protein without eating meat. It’s vegan too.
Quinoa contains more protein than any other grain; an average of 16.2 percent, compared with 7.5 percent for rice. Some varieties of quinoa are more than 20 percent protein. Quinoa’s protein is of an unusually high quality. It is a complete protein, with an essential amino acid balance. Quinoa is also considered a good source of bacteria for the gut, the intestines and the colon. It is also on the low end of the glycemic index. This makes it a great choice for those with blood sugar issues . You’ll also get your daily doses of vitamin B6, thiamin, niacin, potassium, and riboflavin. Furthermore, quinoa is a great source of copper, zinc, magnesium, and folate. Instead of rice, eat quinoa instead. It’s a “supergrain.”
Black beans (and beans in general) pack on some good protein. Add them with rice and you will get a complete protein. They also have some carbs, so if you’re watching that you should be mindful of their carb content. Keep in mind that carbs are needed in your diet – if you are eating no carbs whatsoever, you are really missing the boat.
Other good sources: almonds, pea protein, hemp protein, spinach, spirulina, Quorn, seitan, tempeh

Hello Everyone!!
Happy Wednesday! Here’s another great customer testimonial on MM products in general, brushing and scalp massaging!
“Every day I get more compliments on my hair!!! Even guys I do not really know have commented LOL!! I feel such joy brushing my hair everyday knowing that it helps me so much. I have not been using the massage brush as my hair seems to get tangled (I have long hair) perhaps I am doing it wrong. Never mind…Love your products!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bless you Anthony and your great team…..I will buy your products forever..Interesting – So many of my friends comment on my hair – but they are not willing to forgo their toxic hair dyeing and other products – oh well ‘you can lead a horse to water.’” – Debbie
Debbie mentions that she isn’t sure how to use our scalp massager because it tangles her hair… how many of you are having this problem? I suggest massaging your scalp with Morrocco Method’s 100% natural rubber Scalp Massager 1 to 3 times per a day. One should begin at the nape of their neck (which has the largest concentration of sebaceous glands) and massage gently but vigorously in a circular motion for 3 to 5 minutes or until you feel your scalp tingling with an increased flow of blood. Next pick up the scalp massager and move to a new location, repeating the process. Continue picking up the scalp massager and then putting it down in a new location. This shouldn’t cause tangles as you are massaging in circular motions at one location at a time!
Proper scalp massaging (when also used with proper brushing and 100% natural products) will help your sebaceous glands to produce a balanced, health-enhancing portion of sebum.
Please let me know if you are having any problems with proper scalp massaging!! (You may also take a look at the following video which is located at the following link: http://bit.ly/fuR3Pn)
Thanks for reading!

The Healing Power Of Music

(KTRN Exclusive) Have you ever been having a bad day, feeling down, depressed, unmotivated, and bummed out? We all have. What do you normally do to try to get out of your funk? For some people, they may take a walk, clean the house, watch a funny movie, or call up a friend to chit chat. But what about listening to your favorite music? Try it. You might be surprised just how much better it makes you feel. First, you’re sad and lonely. Then you crank up the volume and the next thing you know, you’re moving, grooving, dancing, and playing air guitar to your favorite album. I’ll will bet you a million dollars (OK, $1) that you will absolutely feel better, almost instantly.
It’s called music therapy and it can work on virtually anyone. According to the American Music Therapy Association, it’s “the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals. It is an established health service similar to occupational therapy and physical therapy and consists of using music therapeutically to address physical, psychological, cognitive and/or social functioning for patients of all ages. Because music therapy is a powerful and non-invasive medium, unique outcomes are possible. In addition to its applications in mental health, music therapy is used successfully in a variety of additional healthcare and educational settings.”
There are numerous benefits to music therapy. You can explore personal feelings and therapeutic issues such as self-esteem or personal insight. It can help make positive changes in mood and emotional states and enhance awareness of yourself. It helps you relax and supports healthy feelings and emotions. It’s even been seen to help develop independence and decision making skills, along with improving concentration or attention span.
A recent video on You Tube has been getting quite a lot of hits. The video (see below) shows an elderly man in a nursing home. He is usually unresponsive and dead to the world. But once he starts listening to his favorite music, he practically wakes up from his slumber. His eyes widen, he taps his toes, he smiles, and he hoots and hollers. After a short session listening to music, the doctors as him questions about his past. Instead of being in a vegetable state, he begins to not only talk about his favorite music, but he even starts singing while remembering his past (he’s got a great voice too).
It doesn’t matter what type of music you listen to. Some experts will say listening to Baroque classical music will make you feel better, but honestly, pick whatever you like. If Slayer is your thing, rock out. If you like bluegrass, that’s cool too. Prog Rock? Why not? Just make sure you turn the volume to 11 like the guys in Spinal Tap.
Time Magazine Reports Skin Cancer Is Up In Young People But Never Mention Sunscreen

(KTRN Exclusive) Time Magazine recently published an article about the rise of skin cancer in young people supposedly due to their overuse of tanning beds. The article reports “Mayo Clinic researchers reported skyrocketing rates of skin cancer among young adults, probably because of their persistent use of tanning beds.” Does anyone else find it interesting that the researches think it’s “probably” due to tanning beds? In other words, they really have no clue. Tanning beds may not be as bad as some people claim, unless you are tanning day after day after day. An article from Natural News in 2010 points out that while there is a risk associated from using tanning beds, it’s actually quite low.
This Time Magazine article fails to mention two important things. First is that tanning beds provide Vitamin D, much like sun exposure. While no one would suggest sitting in the sun (or a tanning bed) for three hours a day, some sun exposure is quite healthy. We all know by now that Vitamin D is a miracle vitamin and provides multiple health benefits. So one could assume that occasional tanning bed use may not be that bad for you. But like many things in life, moderation is key. However, the second issue the article fails to mention is the overuse of sunscreen. This is the real culprit as to why so many people are coming down with skin cancer. In 2010 a report from the Environmental Working Group shows that the dangerous chemicals in sunscreens “accelerate the growth of skin tumors or disrupt the intricate workings of your hormonal systems.” This is only one report of many that shows the harmful effects of sunscreen. It’s interesting to point out that the Time Magazine article not once made reference to the unhealthy effects of lathering dangerous chemicals all over your skin.

Video Game Addiction Is Real And The Government Loves It

(KTRN Exclusive) Video game addiction is a serious problem. Don’t laugh, some people spend eight hours a day in front of their computers, pretending to be mighty warriors or wizards in fantasy on-line computer games every day. The problem has gotten so bad in South Korea that the government there has had to step in to create laws keeping underage gamers from playing too long. In July of 2011, a 21-year-old online-gaming addict was found dead in his home in Inchon, South Korea. He would play virtually non-stop, and rarely slept or even left his room. Two months prior to his death, he started complaining of difficulty in breathing but refused to seek help. This isn’t the only case either. In 2005, a 28-year-old man died from organ failure after playing for 50 hours straight. He even lost his job because of his online-gaming habit. But the sickest case has to do with a married couple from Suwon who let their baby starve to death after they were unable to get away from the game. In the US, the problem is getting just as bad. Author Ryan Van Cleave wrote a book called Unplugged: My Journey into the Dark World of Video Game Addiction. In the book, Ryan discusses his serious problem with on-line gaming. He lost his job, family, and his life due to the World of Warcraft. He even contemplated suicide one night as he stood on a bridge. Quitting the game was not easy either ; he had legitimate withdrawal systems like shaking, cold sweats, anxiety, and sleepless nights. When he called Blizzard Entertainment (the company that owns WOW), he pleaded with them to delete his characters forever. But Blizzard refused – even after Cleave told them about his attempted suicide. Apparently, making $15 a month from a man suffering is more important than helping him. Blizzard’s excuse was that deleting the characters permanently was virtually impossible with the massive back-up system they have in place (sounds fishy).
Have you ever played one of these on-line games? It’s easy to get sucked into a virtual world where you get to run around as a powerful paladin – fighting for honor and justice, saving the day while making virtual gold and gaining in strength and power. I personally had a slight problem with Warcraft too. I often found myself playing six hours a day and not even realizing how much time I was spending on it – and for what? At the end of the day, what is the reward? What is the ultimate goal? The kicker is that you don’t (and can’t) win these games. They are always changing, evolving, and growing – there is no way to win them – you just keep playing and playing and playing. Before you know it, you’ve lost your friends, wife, job, family, and kids. You haven’t showered in three days and you never leave the house. At this point, it’s no longer a game. However, World of Warcraft isn’t the only culprit out there. Many other games suck people in all the time – even cheesy ones like Farmville on Facebook. It’s easy to get addicted to these games – don’t fall into the same trap as Ryan Van Cleave. Once my account was hacked, I decided to no longer play the game. It was turning into work. It wasn’t fun. Every time I logged on, I would look at the list of quests I had to complete and felt overwhelmed at all of the stuff I had to do – it was like going to work. So I gave it up. Don’t think for a second though that I haven’t thought of playing again – it’s crossed my mind from time to time but I know it’s just not worth it.
While video game addiction is a real problem, the people in charge love it. It keeps the citizen’s minds away from the real issues. If you play video games for six to eight hours a day, you won’t have time to focus on issues of the world, you won’t stand up to protest the NDAA, and chances are you won’t follow the news or even care about the issues. Your main focus will be earning more fake gold and gaining experience points. These games dumb you down. It keeps you docile, unfocused, and unmotivated. It makes you even a bigger sheep than you already are. In other words, playing video games all the time makes you stupid. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the occasional video game. But if you’re not careful, it can easily spin out of control. Why not gather a group of friends together to play Clue, or poker, or Monopoly instead? It’s much more fun and you get to interact with human beings face to face. Moderation is key – even when playing video games.
Why not play classic arcade games instead? It’s pretty impossible to get addicted to Ms. Pac man. Plus, the only thing you’ll lose playing Donkey Kong is a quarter.

Library Of Congress To Receive Entire Twitter Archive
December 7, 2011

By Michael O’Connell

“You might think twice before tweeting anything controversial about the governemnt. The Library of Congress will have it on-file. In case anything goes down, the powers that be can use the Defense Authorization Act to imprison you without a trial and for virtually no reason.” –KTRN
The Library of Congress and Twitter have signed an agreement that will see an archive of every public Tweet ever sent handed over to the library’s repository of historical documents.
“We have an agreement with Twitter where they have a bunch of servers with their historic archive of tweets, everything that was sent out and declared to be public,” said Bill Lefurgy, the digital initiatives program manager at the library’s national digital information infrastructure and preservation program. The archives don’t contain tweets that users have protected, but everything else — billions and billions of tweets — are there.
Lefurgy joined the Federal Drive with Tom Temin and Amy Morris Tuesday morning to talk about the library’s digital mission.
Using new technical processes it has developed, Twitter is moving a large quantity of electronic data from one electronic source to another. “They’ve had to do some pretty nifty experimentation and invention to develop the tools and a process to be able to move all of that data over to us,” Lefurgy said.
The Library of Congress has long been the repository of important, historical documents and the Twitter library, as a whole, is something historic in itself.
“We were excited to be involved with acquiring the Twitter archives because it’s a unique record of our time,” Lefurgy said. “It’s also a unique way of communication. It’s not so much that people are going to be interested in what you or I had for lunch, which some people like to say on Twitter.”
Researchers will be able to look at the Twitter archive as a complete set of data, which they could then data-mine for interesting information.
