Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Monday that he is giving Congress ten days to pass a constitutional amendment that would make raising taxes nearly impossible. And if he doesn’t get what he wants, he will do everything in his power to force the U.S. to default on its debts.

“Okay, in ten days you want to change the United States Constitution by two-thirds vote in both houses?” Matthews asked. “That’s what you’re demanding.”

“Yes,” Lee admitted. “If possible we can’t change the Constitution just in Congress but we can submit it to the states. Let the states fight it out.”

“You want the Democratic Senate, by a two-thirds vote, to pass a constitutional amendment or you want the house to come down?” Matthews pressed.

“Yes. That’s exactly what I’m saying and I’ve been saying this for six months,” Lee said.

Lee’s amendment would require a two-thirds majority to raise taxes, making future tax hikes nearly impossible. He would also require spending to return to 1996 levels.

Congressman Sneaks Anti-Vitamin Amendment into Wall Street Reform Bill

Natural News

By Mike Adams

(NaturalNews) Of all the sneaky tactics practiced in Washington D.C., this recent action by Congressman Henry Waxman (D-CA) is one of the most insidious: While no one was looking, he injected amendment language into the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2009 (H.R. 4173) that would expand the powers of the FTC (not the FDA, but the FTC) to terrorize nutritional supplement companies by greatly expanding the power of the FTC to make its own laws that target dietary supplement companies.

This is a little-known secret about the FTC and the nutritional supplements business: The FTC routinely targets nutritional supplement companies that are merely telling the truth about their products. Some companies are threatened by merely linking to published scientific studies about their products.

The FTC does much the same thing. They target a particular company that’s having success in the natural products marketplace, then they accuse that company of “inferring” that their products have some health benefit. From there, the FTC demands that the company engage in paying a massive fine to the FTC, which the FTC calls “consumer redress” even though none of the money actually goes to the consumers.

If you try to fight the FTC, they haul you into their own special “FTC courts” which are not public courts where you have the benefit of a jury, but rather they are courts where the judges are actually FTC employees and you have no rights. You are essentially guilty until proven innocent, and virtually no one has been found innocent by the FTC.

Health Care Bill “Death Panels” Could Only Be Repealed With 67 Senate Votes

Apparently found buried deep in Harry Reid’s last-minute amendment to the health care legislation was this passage changing Senate rules so that the control over doctors and patients given to the Medicare Advisory Panels (government regulators tasked with determining how much of what kind of care you should get when) can only be repealed with a super majority in the Senate.

Or 67 votes.

Upon examination of Senator Harry Reid’s amendment to the health care legislation, Senators discovered section 3403. That section changes…

Economists Opposing Fed Audit Have Ties to Fed

The Huffington Post

By Ryan Grim

As the debate over an audit of the Federal Reserve intensifies in the House, one camp is trotting out eight academics that it calls a “political cross section of prominent economists.”

A review of their backgrounds shows they are anything but.

In a letter to the House Financial Services Committee earlier this month, all eight wrote that they support the type of amendment now being introduced by Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.). Watt’s approach purports to increase Fed transparency while it actually would tighten restrictions on any audits that could go forward.

The letter was sent around Wednesday by Watt’s staff to members of the committee in advance of a vote scheduled for Thursday.

Watt’s measure is in competition with an amendment cosponsored by Reps. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and Alan Grayson (D-Fla.), which would repeal the restrictions that Watt leaves in place.

But far from a broad cross-section, the “prominent economists” lobbying on behalf of the Watt bill are in fact deeply involved with the Federal Reserve. Seven of the eight are either currently on the Fed’s payroll or have been in the past.

The Fed connections are not outlined in the letter sent around to committee members on Wednesday, but are publicly discernible through a review of their resumes, which are all posted online.

In September, Huffington Post reported that the Federal Reserve has accomplished a soft form of effective control over the field of monetary economics simply by employing — and being the means for career advance — for an overwhelming proportion of the discipline.

Now that the Fed is locked in a legislative battle on the Hill, it can call on those economists to give their “unvarnished” opinions to lawmakers.

The connections that the seven economists lobbying Congress have to the Fed are not incidental and four of them maintain current positions.

Let’s run the traps:

Frederic Mishkin is a former board member, having served from 2006-2008. His career at the Fed stretches back to 1977 and he currently holds two positions: one as a member of the Center for Latin American Economics at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, where he’s been since 1996; and another as an academic consultant to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he’s been since 1997.

Anil K. Kashyap is currently a consultant with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, a position he’s held since 1991. He’s also on the economic advisory panel of the New York branch and was a consultant there in 2003. He was a visiting scholar at the division of monetary affairs at the Board of Governors of in1994, 2001 and 2005 and at the division of international finance in 1997.

Treasury Secretary Scalded Over TARP and Unemployment

By Paul Joseph Watson

Congressman Michael Burgess scalded Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner during a fiery hearing on Capitol Hill this morning, telling the former New York Fed chief that he should never have been hired and demanding that the TARP program come to an abrupt end, shortly after GOP Rep. Kevin Brady had called on Geithner to resign.

“The public has lost all confidence in your ability to do the job,” Brady told Geithner during a heated Joint Economic Committee meeting, adding that he had failed to oversee an economic recovery before asking Geithner, “Will you step down from your post?”

Geithner responded by claiming that confidence in the economy was substantially stronger than before Obama took office, to which Brady responded, “Tell all of that to the millions of American who no longer have jobs because of your decisions,” adding, “At some point you have to take some responsibility for your decisions.”

“This is your budget! This is your bailout”, shouted Brady.

Obama pledged to create 3.5 million new jobs by 2010, however, with unemployment running at 10.2 per cent, and with 3.5 million jobs lost, the Obama jobs deficit stands at over 7 million.

Shortly after the fracas, Rep. Michael Burgess confronted Geithner on how TARP funds were used to bail out banks in Europe while the American people suffered with spiraling mortgage defaults and unemployment.

“We’ve got the TARP, it’s supposed to expire, why won’t we let it die a natural death rather than letting it painfully linger?” asked Burgess, to which Geithner responded, “We are working to put TARP out of its misery,” contradicting reports of a “second stimulus” being planned for early 2010.

Geithner’s claim that he was working aggressively to terminate TARP programs was met with Burgess’ response, “Well it looks like money is going out with little or no oversight,” which Geithner denied, despite the fact that Fed chairman Ben Bernanke admitted earlier this year that he didn’t know which foreign banks had received over half a trillion dollars in credit swaps when pressed by Congressman Alan Grayson, who this week introduced an amendment with Ron Paul to secure more oversight on money leaving the U.S. earmarked for foreign banks.
