15 Ways To Beat Stress This Holiday Season

The holidays are officially upon us and that means stress levels are rising to an all time high! Here are some helpful and essential tips to lower your stress levels and allow you to have a relaxing and more importantly, fun, holiday season!
1. Emphasize an organic, whole foods diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, complex carbohydrates, and adequate amounts of essential fatty acid.
2. Drink plenty of pure, filtered water throughout the day, to avoid dehydration, a common but overlooked cause of stress.
3. Be sure to eat a healthy breakfast. Skipping breakfast can add to stress levels by making you more tired and irritable.
4. Avoid all sugars, refined carbohydrates, food additives and preservatives, and processed foods, and minimize your intake of alcohol and caffeine throughout the day.
5. Regularly practice relaxation exercises and/or meditation.
6. Exercise at least three times each week, for 30 minutes each session. Gentle aerobic exercises combined with moderate weight training can significantly relieve stress and improve your overall mood. Be sure not to overexert yourself, however, as doing so will only increase your stress levels.
7. Useful nutritional supplements include vitamin A, B-complex vitamins, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, as well as a complete multivitamin/multimineral formula.
8. Useful herbs for dealing with stress including American ginseng, chamomile, passionflower, and valerian root, all of which can be taken as teas.
9. Bach flowers and other flower essences can help to heal unresolved or inappropriately expressed negative emotions that can cause stress, as well as many other physical health problems.
10. Get adequate amounts of sleep each night and be sure to go to bed at the same time.
11. Set up your daily schedule so that you have plenty of time to deal with your daily tasks and focus on accomplishing those that are the most important first.
12. Become more conscious of your fears and worries and examine them objectively. Doing so can significantly reduce their hold on you.
13. Avoid long periods of isolation. Spend regular quality time with your loved ones. If you live alone, seek out your friends.
14. Find and devote yourself to one or more hobbies that you truly enjoy.
15. And finally, cultivate your sense of humor and laugh more often!

Arsenic Found in Infant Formula

CBS News
By Monica DyBuncio
Is arsenic in your breakfast? A new study suggests that might just be what you – or your children – are having each morning.
Researchers at Dartmouth College already knew that rice can be a major source of inorganic arsenic. This includes rice products, such as organic brown rice syrup, an alternative sweetener to high fructose corn syrup. Exposure to high levels of inorganic arsenic over time has been tied to increased risk for cancer.
For the study – published in the Feb. 16 issue of Environmental Health Perspectives – the researchers investigated levels of arsenic in commercially available brown rice syrups, and in products containing the syrups, including infant formula, cereal and energy bars, and high energy foods used by endurance athletes.
What did they find? Surprising levels of arsenic in these products containing organic brown rice syrup.
Out of 17 infant formulas tested, 15 did not contain organic brown rice syrups – and had relatively low levels of arsenic. As for the two formulas that listed organic brown rice syrup as the primary ingredient – those contained 20 times as much arsenic as ones without the rice ingredient. One had a total arsenic concentration that was six times the federal limit of 10 parts per billion (ppb) for total arsenic in bottled or public drinking water.

“Breakfast is amazing. How would anyone skip it?” –KTRN
The recipe below was developed by Dr William Donald Kelley, DDS, MS (November 1, 1925 – January 30, 2005). Dr Kelley cured himself of metastatic pancreatic cancer. In 1962 when he was 37 years old, he was told by his doctor that he had only months to live and that conventional medicine had nothing to offer him to help his condition. He was not about to go home and quietly ‘get his affairs in order’. Because he had nothing to lose, he began doing his own research and experimenting on himself. There were tumors in his liver that were visibly bulging out from his stomach, and he used them as a diagnostic signal to judge the efficacy of his trials. When he made a misstep, the tumors visibly grew. When he was on the right track, they shrank. He developed a protocol based largely on nutrition, natural supplements including pancreatic enzymes, and detoxification including coffee enemas. The cereal recipe below was part of his routine. Dr Kelley went on to live 43 more years, and along the way he helped hundreds of other people (many of them also diagnosed as terminal regained their health).

The Hormone Balancing Food Plan For Women

Food Matters
By Dr Christiane Northrup
The hormonal health of any woman depends upon the delicate dance of progesterone and estrogen. Estrogen is meant to be the predominant hormone in the first half of the menstrual cycle and progesterone the predominant one in the second half. However, for most women in the industrialized world this is not the case.
There are many causes of hormone imbalance, but at the base of the problem is something called Estrogen Dominance – which means there is too much estrogen and not enough progesterone present in the body. There are many symptoms that result from having low progesterone levels.
The common causes of hormonal imbalance and estrogen dominance include:
taking the pill,
taking HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy),
exposure to environmental poison,
eating non organic and estrogen pumped animal products,
stress in all its forms and
dangerous cosmetics.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
When you consider the average lifestyle of most women today, it is not hard to understand why insulin, estrogen and eicosanoids have become imbalanced, setting the stage for increased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, depression, PMS, arthritis and breast cancer. Here are my suggestions for keeping your blood sugar, eicosanoids and hormones in balance.
Eat at least three meals per day.
Many women skip breakfast or lunch, or even both, “saving” their calories for dinner. The problem with this approach is that the metabolic rate naturally peaks at noon and slows after that. So the food you eat at night is far more likely to be stored as fat. When you eat breakfast, your metabolism gets jump-started for the day. If you skip it, your metabolism will slow down into conservation mode and this can lead to weight gain.
Cut down on refined and high-glycemic index carbohydrates.
Not all carbohydrates are created equal. Whether certain foods with a high-glycemic index, such as baked potatoes or bananas, can be part of a healthy diet for you depends upon your unique metabolism. If you are a true carbohydrate addict, you need to find what foods are healthy for you. I find that eliminating refined carbohydrates, such as sugar, white rice, bread, alcohol, and foods made with white flour, such as muffins, bagels, pasta, pretzels and other snack foods, helps the body burn stored fat and keeps insulin and blood sugar levels normal.
Consume whole grains in moderation.
Even if you have eliminated refined grains, if you are a carbohydrate-sensitive person you may still have problems with whole wheat, whole rye, whole oat, or millet flour. Research shows that the degenerative diseases that currently plague Americans didn’t arrive on the scene until agriculture became widespread. In fact, the ancient Egyptians were fat and had dental disease associated with a grain-based diet.

Which Cereal Brands Are Truly Organic? Sadly, No Cocoa Puffs.

The non-profit family farm advocacy group Cornucopia Institute (CI) recently released its Organic Cereal Scorecard, a comprehensive analysis of many popular “natural” and organic breakfast cereal brands that highlight both the best and worst players in the industry.
In the report, CI provides not only a detailed listing of the many companies producing phony “natural” products, but it also outlines those that are committed to producing and selling only clean, organic food to their customers.
Some health food stores and even conventional grocery stores continue to sell “natural” cereal brands that secretly contain chemical pesticide and herbicide residues, genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), and various other deadly toxins. These products are often marketed as being more “natural” than conventional brands, and are even priced at a premium — but in reality, they are often no different than less expensive conventional brands.
In order to better assist NaturalNews readers in making smart food choices and help them to avoid the “natural” product trap, we have provided a detailed listing of some of the best cereal brands available. These brands are considered to be fully trustworthy and committed to organics, and tests of their products have revealed that their labels truly do match their content. As a result, CI has awarded them top scores in each category, and they all have a full “Wheat Rating.”
Brands that are fully committed to producing organic, GMO-free cereal and granola
• Ambrosial (Ambrosial Organic Inc. / Independent Company)
• Country Choice Organic (Country Choice Organic / Independent Company)
• Farm to Table (Farm to Table Foods, Inc. / Independent Company)
• Go Raw (Freeland Foods / Independent Company)
• Grandy Oats (Grandy Oats / Independent Company)
• Great River Organic Milling (Great River Organic Milling / Independent Company)
• Kaia (Kaia Foods / Independent Company)
• Laughing Giraffe (Laughing Giraffe Inc. / Independent Company)
• Lydia’s Organics (Lydia’s Organics / Independent Company)
• Nature’s Path (Nature’s Path / Independent Company)
• Tierra Farm (Tierra Farm / Independent Company)
• Two Moms in the Raw (Two Moms in the Raw / Independent Company)
Each one of these brands scored full points in all seven rating categories, including the organic status of their products; commitment by their corporate owner(s) to organics; policies against GMOs as a brand; policies against GMOs by corporate owner; level of hexane found in products; stance over use of agrichemicals by brand and product; and stance over use of agrichemicals by owner(s).
Some of the largest and most well-known brands in this category include Country Choice Organic, Kaia Foods, and Nature’s Path.
Other companies that scored slightly less than perfect, but that deserve a mention for their commitment to organics, include Eco-Planet, Grawnola, Green Barn Organics, Food for Life, and Erewhon. Each one of these brands sells only 100 percent organic cereal and granola products (except for Grawnola and Erewhon).

3 Ways To Be Happier Now
October 7, 2011 by admin

The Huffington Post
By: Kristi Blicharski
I really love my life! It wasn’t always that way. It took a lot of hard work, important lessons and many shifts in perception to get to this place. I’ve learned to step into myself and who I truly am, and I’ve learned to get out of my own way.
Something else I learned along the way is that all human beings have a single life purpose in common. That purpose is to be happy. For a big part of my life, I spent so much time struggling, trying to figure out how to feel happier, to get to a happier place, or to get my hands around the next thing or achievement that would “make me happy.” It never seemed to work. I know now that what I didn’t do was just allow myself to simply be happy right then and there.
The truth is that authentic happiness and inner-peace lies in the present moment, right now, within us, waiting and longing to be embraced. Once I finally understood this idea, my life changed profoundly.
Along my own journey to be happy, I discovered a number of ideas and tools that work extremely well to assist in embracing the joy that is always available in each moment. There are three in particular that I’ve found to be fantastically helpful.
First, view happiness as an activity. Not just as a feeling, but also as something we take active part in doing and creating. Aristotle said, “Happiness is a state of activity.” This notion entirely changed my perception. When we’re in the midst of actively doing something we enjoy, being of service to others, or taking part in something healthful like exercise, meditation, or munching down a big salad, we feel happy and empowered. This is doing happiness. It’s all about choosing how we create and live each moment.
Second, re-think mornings. Our thoughts have a deep impact on our world. I remember a time in my life when I was waking up each day in a place of complete lack, swimming in negative, limiting thoughts that left me forcing myself to get out of bed with a heavy heart on a regular basis. Skipping breakfast, loading up on caffeine, and rushing to get of out the door on time didn’t help. I was carrying that nasty energy with me into the day ahead.
Once I realized that the way I was starting my day was creating the path for the rest of it, I understood how extremely important it is to make mornings as positive as possible. I’ve now changed my thoughts in the mornings to focus on the positive, and I’ve changed my routine to include plenty of time, a decent breakfast, and reading uplifting posts from my favorite blogs. It’s worked wonders. My days, and my life, have radically improved.
Finally, open yourself to recognize and receive the limitless joy, comfort, and wonder that is all around at every moment in the little things. This is excellent everyday practice, but it’s especially helpful during challenging times. It’s so easy to get so caught up in focusing on the big stuff in life that we miss the bliss that can be found in all the amazing, beautiful small things, which actually aren’t small at all.
The orchid plant in my office is a great example. Sometimes when I’m feeling a bit stressed, I focus on the remarkable intricacy and beauty of this living miracle, and it really puts things in perspective. I also have a super cute glass flying pig on my desk to remind me to say “no” when I need to. It makes me smile every time I look at it, and serves as a great reminder to be true to myself. That little winged pig has a big impact.
Changing the way we perceive happiness can completely transform the way we experience it, as well as greatly increase its presence. I believe the same applies to balance, love, and passion. It’s all about choice, thoughts, and taking an active role in doing, creating, recognizing, and embracing. Your happiest place is right here, right now. In this moment. Live it. Rock it. Make it beautiful.
