How Candida Affects You!

I get a lot of emails about Candida and what it’s all about. We all have Candida to some degree or other. The question is whether it is an overgrowth situation. This is important because excessive Candida causes all kinds of chaos. Furthermore, the insidious yeasties are both difficult to diagnose and to treat.
If you think of Candida as an invader, taking up space in your otherwise healthy body, you are on the right track. Because Candida can cause so many symptoms, people who suffer from it are often considered to be hypochondriacs.
This is not the case, and that Candida can be such a huge problem that it can ruin your life. If you have many of the common symptoms, you may very well have Candida. Read through the following and see what applies. Physical symptoms: Allergies, anxiety and depression, chronic fatigue, confusion and/or memory problems, eye irritations, earaches, fungal infections (athlete’s foot, “jock itch,” ringworm) which recur often, gastrointestinal problems (such as bloating, cramping, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, and heartburn), headaches and migraines, heart palpitations, hives, hyperactivity, irritability and mood swings, increased susceptibility to the affects of alcohol, loss of libido, oral and/or vaginal thrush, painful premenstrual syndrome (PMS), respiratory problems (asthma, coughing, hay fever, lung and/or nasal congestion, sinusitis, wheezing), sexual dysfunctions, skin problems (acne, rashes, scaly skin), sleeping problems, and vaginitis.
Gee, that would make nearly every human being a candidate for a Candida diagnosis!

Everyone’s body is host to Candida (Candida albicans). Candida is a type of yeast. Candida is normally kept under control by good health and probiotics. In other words, probiotic bacteria are effective in controlling Candida in the mouth, a problem of particular concern for the elderly. The exact mechanism by which probiotics inhibit Candida growth is not fully understood to date. Some suggest the ability of probiotics to produce hydrogen peroxide plays a role; however, in vivo studies suggest that probiotics might prevent Candida growth through multiple mechanisms.

There are few women who have never had a yeast infection, which is an overgrowth of a bacteria called Candida albicans that is found in the mouth, the intestines, and the vagina. A Candida overgrowth causes vaginal itching, redness, white cottage-cheese-like vaginal discharge, and may cause painful intercourse. Normal beneficial bacteria in the gut and vagina (also called probiotics) inhibit Candida.
