Celebrity Seeking Treatment for Bipolar Disorder

For months, Catherine Zeta-Jones played the part of the devoted wife as her husband, actor Michael Douglas, sought treatment for throat cancer. Now, it seems all wasn’t well in her world.
Today, Zeta-Jones’ publicist revealed that the actress recently sought treatment for bipolar disorder.
“After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II Disorder,” her publicist said in a statement. “She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week this week on her two upcoming films.”
Bipolar disorder is also called manic-depressive illness. The disorder is most known for the unusual shifts in mood and energy that those with it experience. Sufferers can go through what is known as a manic episode — an overly excited or joyful state — or a depressive episode — a state of unusual sadness or hopelessness.
Bipolar II disorder is not as severe as bipolar I. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, while those with bipolar I typically experience mania and intense mood episodes that can last at least seven days and may require hospitalization, bipolar II usually results in less intense depressive episodes.
While bipolar disorder often develops in a person’s late teens or early adult years, it has been known to develop later on in life as well.
Zeta-Jones, 41, was outspoken about her anger after Douglas, 66, was diagnosed with throat cancer in August 2010.
“It makes me furious they didn’t detect it earlier,” Zeta-Jones told People magazine. “He sought every option and nothing was found.”
Douglas’ cancer wasn’t the only stress in the couple’s life. Last year, Douglas’ ex-wife took him to court seeking a some of his profits from his “Wall Street” sequel, which was released in 2010 but was based on the iconic film that he made while they were married, which she said entitled her to a share.
Zeta-Jones reportedly turned down roles to be by Douglas’ side through his legal and physical battles. In January, Douglas noted that his cancer fight drew him and Zeta-Jones closer.
“One thing that all cancer survivors talk about is a new depth of feeling that you have for loved ones,” he said while receiving an award at the Palm Springs Film Festival. Zeta-Jones was at the festival with him.
“It’s made us even closer,” he added, “and certainly there’s a depth of emotion and an appreciation of your daily life that you didn’t have before.”
Zeta-Jones and Douglas married in 2000. They have two children together, Dylan Michael Douglas and Carys Zeta Douglas.

Charlie Sheen’s Tweets Could Make Him Millions

Charlie Sheen is going to be the richest unemployed winner in Hollywood. The actor has accepted a gig with Ad.ly to start tweeting endorsements. The company already pays around 1,000 celebrities to tweet about brands.
Ad.ly CEO Arnie Gullov-Singh told The Hollywood Reporter that Sheen could become the company’s most valuable asset, a title currently held by reality starlet Kim Kardashian.
The Ad.ly model works by paying celebrities between $200 and $25,000 to tweet on behalf of advertisers. The brands in turn get the exposure from a celebrity’s wide-ranging feed of followers as well as the cache of being associated with someone famous.
It was Sheen’s record-setting Twitter bull run that really got Singh’s attention. The out-of-work actor gained more than 1 million followers in the first day he was on the social media site.
That’s a nice base to be sure, but Ad.ly and Sheen might not want to start swimming in their hundred dollar bills just yet.
In order for this money-making scheme to work, brands need to want to be associated with Sheen. Granted there are certain brands that will have no problem aligning themselves with the bad boy just for the exposure it will bring them. But Ad.ly’s big dog clients — Sony, Microsoft, Lionsgate and Old Navy to name a few — may think twice before opting to co-brand with the mad man who is flaunting his polyamorous relationship all over the media and bragging about banging back 7-gram rocks of cocaine.
We actually can’t wait to see who and what hops aboard the Sheen gravy train.

Homeless Man Turns Life Around With Golden Voice

His voice intact and his dignity restored, a Brooklyn-born panhandler returned to his hometown Thursday morning – and used his golden voice to open the “Today” show.
“From NBC News, this is ‘Today’ with Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera, live from Studio 1A in Rockefeller Plaza,” said Ted Williams, the homeless recovering alcoholic turned media star.
Williams, 53, arrived at the morning network show’s W. 48th St. studios with a big smile. Just three days ago, he was begging for change from motorists in Columbus, Ohio.
“It’s delightful, just delightful,” Williams said of his instant celebrity. “I’m just happy to meet Matt Lauer, see my mom and be back in New York!”
The new star sported an old wardrobe: A green camouflage jacket, green T-shirt and jeans. He sipped from a coffee in one hand and a water bottle in the other.
Williams said it was unclear when he would reunite with his mother, Julia Williams, for the first time in more than a decade.
“I don’t know when I’ll see her,” he said before sitting for a nationally-televised interview.
Julia Williams, 92, told WCBS Channel 2 News that drugs “destroyed my whole family.”
When she sees her son, she has a simple message for him: “Please get God in your life and what’s right.”
Williams’ luck turned when a local newspaper video of the one-time radio announcer’s striking vocal talent went viral. It produced a whirlwind of media attention and a pile of voice-over opportunities, including one to work for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In between sifting through job offers on Wednesday, a tearful Williams told CBS’ “The Early Show” the best gift of his newfound fame was the chance to visit his mom.
“I apologize. I’m getting a little emotional. I haven’t seen my mom in a great deal of time,” said Williams.
“One of my biggest prayers that I sent out was that she would live long enough for me to see me rebound or whatever, and I guess God kept her around and kept my pipes around to maybe just have one more shot,” he said.
Williams’ ex-wife, Patricia Kirtley, told the Daily News that she called his mom – who still lives in the East Flatbush apartment where she raised her kids – to explain her son’s stunning reversal of fortune.
“She didn’t believe it until I called her. She is so overwhelmed,” said Kirtley, 58, who had five children with Williams. “I think she does not want him to mess it up. She said this is an opportunity and a second chance.”
Their reunion was delayed after Williams was turned away from a flight because he lacked proper identification, according to TMZ.
Kirtley met Williams when he was 18 – and even then he had dreams of becoming a radio personality.
“I was about to melt,” she said of first hearing his voice. “He does have a God-given gift. He was always the entertainer. He always played music. He was like the deejay.”
Kirtley said Williams had a promising radio career in the 1980s – first as an overnight deejay in Johnstown, Ohio, and later on a morning show in Columbus, where he nicknamed himself Teddy Bear.
Aside from his radio gigs, Williams would act as an emcee for entertainers who came through Columbus. Kirtley said her ex didn’t handle fame well and got caught up with women, booze and drugs.
“He started messing up,” she said. “He had a lot of groupies. I think it was a whole lot for him to try and handle that. A lot of things were going wrong in his life.”
Williams’ career and marriage collapsed. His addiction led to a string of arrests for forgery and theft, records show.
That all turned around when a reporter for the Columbus Dispatch found Williams begging for money with a sign saying he had a “God-given gift of a great voice.” In the video, he does pitch-perfect station identifications.
Williams told the “Early Show” he hoped someone might spot his talents, but he never expected the outpouring of job offers and media attention.
“It’s like almost winning the Mega Ball lottery or something. It’s just phenomenal.”
