Did you know that roughly 10% of the American population suffers from depression? It isn’t exactly a coincidence, with the FDA approving a wide variety of damaging foods and drugs that many millions of Americans consume each day. The FDA isn’t helping the population with their approval of the dozens of antidepressant medications on the market – it in fact is doing the exact opposite.

The beneficial results of antidepressants have been under the spotlight for quite some time in the health world, and the validity of giving them out like candy to patients in need of a quick and easy solution is under question as well; just how useful is medication for depression?

At best, the tangible results felt by patients are comparable to sugar pills. That is to say, the medication itself does virtually nothing to improve the mood of the patient directly. At worst, antidepressants cause decreased mental stability. Wanting to kill yourself or others around you are feelings which antidepressants have been shown to ignite.

There is even the possibility that while on these terrible drugs you can become even more vulnerable to more serious mental illnesses – all whilst other legitimate non-medication methods for treating depression are being tread underfoot by the FDA.

In more recent studies, there has been surfacing evidence that antidepressants cause arteries to thicken at a faster rate. Research specifically points to an increased thickness of the lining of the carotid artery by up to 5% in men, thereby increasing the risk of heart disease substantially by putting more pressure on the heart.

It’s commonly known that cranberry juice is beneficial for clearing and eliminating infections of urinary tracts. But several studies have recently discovered another benefit for cranberry juice – heart health.

Hardened and obstructed arteries lead to blood vessels collapsing or rupturing, initiating heart attacks. Cranberry juice helps arteries become more flexible as well as remaining sufficiently dilated to not obstruct blood flow.

It appears that what helps clear the urinary tract also functions to clear arteries and prevent accumulation of debris leading to atheroscierosis or arteriosclerotic vascular disease (ASVD).

Phytonutrients in cranberries, known as proanthocyanidins (PACs), are the channel clearing agents. PACs do not kill bacteria or eliminate cholesterol. They simply don’t allow bacteria or plaque debris to collect in urinary tracts or arterial walls. Anthocyanins appear in fruits and vegetables colored red or purple.

Cranberry researchers still used the cholesterol myth
Though strict testing showed improved vascular health and blood flow from drinking cranberry juice, the researchers constantly referred to high cholesterol as their marker. The test reviews are within sources linked below.

But more and more health authorities see cholesterol as a benevolent bystander involved in the mix of debris that forms arterial plaque.

Cholesterol is composed of lipids (fats) that are flexible. Some health experts consider a more unusual suspect is free roaming calcium in the blood that isn’t getting into the bones, but instead is calcifying in the arteries.

According to heart surgeon Dr. Dwight Lundell, arterial inflammation is the cause of heart disease. It usually occurs from trans-fatty acids that are substituted for good fats in our diet. He maintains that cholesterol is not the culprit. It’s actually protective and essential to cellular wall and brain composition.

There is the possibility that bacterial or viral inflammation in the arteries is another factor. Considering how cranberry juice removes, not kills, infectious pathogens in the urinary tract, this characteristic could apply to removing arterial inflammatory sources as well.

Most people have taken an aspirin at one point or another in their life. Whether it was for a headache, a fever or any other pain, its typical use as a popular drug is something almost pervasive in the modern West.

Aspirin is also recommended to older patients as a daily use treatment for inflammation and heart health, but there are a number of considerations that should be pointed out when accepting or advocating the use of aspirin in general. In ancient times, physicians would use willow tree bark, which actually contains the salicylic acid — the same ingredient used to synthesize aspirin today. Traditional physicians would use this as a natural treatment for aches, pains and fever. Despite the fact that this is a legitimate natural cure, aspirin itself is chemically manufactured and often comes with a number of side effects.

The most common of these is gastrointestinal disturbance, often causing stomach ulcers and intestinal bleeding. Numerous studies have been conducted on daily aspirin use for over two decades, with some further shocking conclusions. Those on daily aspirin regimens had a twofold increase in hemorrhagic brain strokes, which cripple and kill. What’s more? Fatal heart attacks were actually not reduced at all by taking low dose aspirin daily. The ‘aspirin a day’ method is supposed to help prevent heart ailments in people with heart conditions, and has been popularly pushed as a positive prevention measure for artery clogging.

It’s expected that a routine aspirin user is subjecting themselves to these risks more often by doing so.
