Accidental Truth in Advertising

Junk food advertising has reached a new low with the recent Doritos “Crash the Super Bowl” ads which portray Doritos consumers as violent murderers who will kill fellow human beings to get a bag of Doritos.
One Doritos ad portrays a man backing out of a parking lot when his car strikes an innocent person who drops a bag of Doritos and falls to the ground behind the car. Rather than trying to help the innocent victim, this man throws his car into reverse and drives over the victim, killing him with the vehicle and stealing the bag of Doritos.
The message? Doritos are so valuable that it’s okay to kill people just to score a bag.
A second Doritos ad shows two loser-looking gym bums being attacked by an insane junk food ninja who uses Doritos chips as throwing stars to murder the guy who stole his bag of Doritos. The message here? Doritos are so valuable that it’s okay to kill others to defend your snack.
A third Doritos ad shows one elderly man attacking a young man with a stun gun in order to buy the last bag of Doritos from a vending machine. Same gratuitous violence. Same message: Committing violent acts against others is perfectly acceptable when you’re pursuing a bag of Doritos.
Yet another Doritos ad shows two grown men smacking each other in the face to decide which loser has to go buy more Doritos. The loser ends up with a black eye after being punched so hard he flies through the air and lands on a coffee table, shattering it. Gee, why not just use the women in this role and make it a wife-beating commercial?
A common theme: Violence against innocent people
What’s the common theme of all these Doritos television commercials? Acts of senseless violence committed against fellow human beings.
Doritos marketing executives apparently think these commercials showing gratuitous acts of violence and murder are going to help them sell more Doritos. Maybe they’ve been eating too much of their own product and their brain function has been suppressed by all the MSG found in Doritos… because these ads aren’t funny, they’re sick!
“Demented” might be a better term. It’s hard to see the humor when there’s so much realistic violence in the way. And yet somehow Frito-Lay executives gave these ads the big thumbs up. Let’s use violence to sell junk foods!
It sort of makes sense, actually: Junk food consumption is correlated with violent crime. Virtually all the criminals in prison across the country are nutritionally imbalanced due to their consumption of processed junk foods and their lack of sufficient nutritional supplementation. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if a study revealed that fried snack foods like Doritos are a favorite food among violent criminals. These are, after all, the kind of people depicted in some Doritos advertisements.
In my view, the violent Doritos commercials accurately reflect the senseless, violent behavior that typifies people (younger males, mostly) who consume large quantities of processed junk foods, sugary soft drinks and gimmicky “sports drinks.” These are the people who end up being put on antidepressants and other psychotropic drugs, after which they sometimes end up in a school shooting rampage.
It might make a good Doritos commercial, actually: A kid grows up on junk food and diet soda laced with aspartame. He’s drugged up on Ritalin and Prozac. One day he brings a semiautomatic rifle to school, barges into a classroom and opens fire on his classmates, shooting and screaming, “I WANT MY F*@!KING DORITOS!”
Hilarious, huh? Some people think so. The Frito-Lay executives apparently think this kind of violence is appropriate for mainstream television. This is the kind of imagery they’re using to try to convince people to buy their products! How sick is that?

Hidden Sources of MSG
February 2, 2010
Truth in Labeling
HIDDEN SOURCES OF PROCESSED FREE GLUTAMIC ACID (MSG)
NAMES OF INGREDIENTS THAT CONTAIN ENOUGH MSG TO SERVE AS COMMON MSG-REACTION TRIGGERS
The MSG-reaction is a reaction to free glutamic acid that occurs in food as a consequence of manufacture. MSG-sensitive people do not react to protein (which contains bound glutamic acid) or any of the minute amounts of free glutamic acid that might be found in unadulterated, unfermented, unprocessed, food.
These ALWAYS contain MSG
Glutamate
(E 620)
Glutamic acid
(E 620)
Monosodium glutamate
(E 621)
Monopotassium glutamate
(E 622) Calcium glutamate
(E 623)
Monoammonium glutamate (E 624)
Magnesium glutamate
(E 625)
Natrium glutamate (natrium is Latin/German for sodium) Gelatin
Calcium caseinate Sodium caseinate Textured protein
anything “hydrolyzed” any “hydrolyzed … protein” Yeast nutrient
Yeast extract Yeast food Autolyzed yeast
Vetsin
Ajinomoto
These OFTEN contain MSG or create MSG during processing
Carrageenan Maltodextrin Malt extract
Natural pork flavoring Citric acid Malt flavoring
Bouillon and Broth Natural chicken flavoring Soy protein isolate
Natural beef flavoring Ultra-pasteurized Soy sauce
Stock Barley malt Soy sauce extract
Whey protein concentrate Pectin Soy protein
Whey protein Protease Soy protein concentrate
Whey protein isolate Protease enzymes Anything protein fortified
Flavors(s) & Flavoring(s) Anything enzyme modified Anything fermented
Natural flavor(s)
& flavoring(s) Enzymes anything Seasonings
(the word “seasonings”)
These ingredients work synergistically with MSG to enhance flavor
(If they are present for flavoring purposes, so is MSG)
Disodium 5’-guanylate
(E 627)
Disodium 5’-inosinate
(E 631)
Disodium 5′-ribonucleotides
(E 635)
In ADDITION…
The not so new game is to label hydrolyzed proteins as pea protein, whey protein, corn protein, etc. If a pea, for example, were whole, it would be identified as a pea. Calling an ingredient pea protein indicates that the pea has been hydrolyzed, at least in part, and that processed free glutamic acid (MSG) is present. Relatively new to the list are wheat protein and soy protein.
Disodium guanylate and disodium inosinate are expensive food additives that work synergistically with inexpensive MSG. Their use suggests that the product has MSG in it. They would probably not be used as food additives if there were no MSG present.
MSG reactions have been reported from soaps, shampoos, hair conditioners, and cosmetics, where MSG is hidden in ingredients that include the words “hydrolyzed,” “amino acids,” and “protein.”
Low fat and no fat milk products often include milk solids that contain MSG and/or contain Carrageenan, guar gum, and/or locust bean gum. Low fat and no fat versions of ice cream and cheese may not be as obvious as yogurt, milk, cream, cream cheese, cottage cheese, etc., but they are not an exception.
Protein powders contain glutamic acid, which, invariably, would be processed free glutamic acid (MSG). Amino acids are not always listed on labels of protein powders.
Drinks, candy, and chewing gum are potential sources of hidden MSG and/or aspartame and neotame. Aspartic acid, found in neotame and aspartame (NutraSweet), ordinarily causes MSG type reactions in MSG sensitive people. Aspartame is found in some medications, including children’s medications. Neotame is relatively new and we have not yet seen it used widely in the United States. Check with your pharmacist.
Binders and fillers for medications, nutrients, and supplements, both prescription and non-prescription, enteral feeding materials, and some fluids administered intravenously in hospitals, may contain MSG.
According to the manufacturer, Varivax–Merck chicken pox vaccine (Varicella Virus Live), contains L-monosodium glutamate and hydrolyzed gelatin, both of which contain processed free glutamic acid (MSG) which causes brain lesions in young laboratory animals, and causes endocrine disturbances like OBESITY and REPRODUCTIVE disorders later in life. It would appear that most, if not all, live virus vaccines contain some ingredient that contains MSG.
Reactions to MSG are dose related, i.e., some people react to even very small amounts. MSG-induced reactions may occur immediately after ingestion or after as much as 48 hours. The time lapse is typically the same for any one individual.
Note: There are additional ingredients that appear to cause MSG reactions in ACUTELY sensitive people. A list is available by request.
Remember: By FDA definition, all MSG is “naturally occurring.” “Natural” doesn’t mean “safe.” “Natural” only means that the ingredient started out in nature.
We would like to hear from you if you have found additional MSG-reaction triggers.

Children’s Network Nickelodeon Run Ads Promoting Junk Food
December 14, 2009
Natural News
By Paul Louis
The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) determined that “nearly 80 percent of food ads on the popular children’s network Nickelodeon are for foods of poor nutritional quality.” This modest improvement from 90 percent in 2005 was considered insufficient, and the industry’s self regulatory group was chastised for such a small improvement over a four year span.
CSPI nutrition policy director Margo G. Wootan stated, “It’s a modest start, but not sufficient to address children’s poor eating habits and the sky-high rates of childhood obesity.”
The food industry’s self regulatory system was formed under the moniker of The Children’s Food and Beverage Advertising Initiative (CFBAI) after the initial 2005 CSPI report. It was formed under the Better Business Bureau. Evidently, self regulation within a group of many members vying for big bucks is not such a great idea.
CSPI took a close look at all the food manufacturers who are members of CFBAI and discovered that 60 percent of their advertised foods did not measure up to CSPI nutritional standards. If 80 percent of Nickelodeon ads were promoting foods of poor nutritional quality, that means the foods with the poorest nutritional quality were advertised more than CSPI’s acceptable foods.
Apparently CSPI standards are not even that high. The major concern of obesity from sugar and fats ignores all the other trappings of junk food, such as high fructose corn syrup, a terrible health-destroying sweetener often used because it’s cheaper than sugar. Another less expensive sweetener that seems to be ignored is aspartame, a neurotoxin with serious health consequences.
Then there is MSG with its myriad disguises. MSG as a flavor enhancer is also a neurotoxin, and its addictive quality makes it a usual suspect in obesity issues. The fact that corn-based sweeteners are probably sourced from GMO corn seems to be ignored. Bottom line: The percentage of health-destroying junk foods that the CFBAI companies offer is very likely much higher than 60 percent.
Among the nutritionally uneducated, the sole urge to avoid obesity encourages using dangerous sweeteners while avoiding healthy fats. It’s a recipe for worsening health. And it appears that mainstream dietary standards are lacking the complete picture. So it’s up to parents to be well informed about nutritional issues and take control of their children’s diets.

Raw Milk Undercover Operations
December 7, 2009
Natural News
By Mike Adams
Imagine being watched by two undercover cops as you engage in an illicit deal in a deserted parking lot. The buyer hesitantly hands you some cash. You flash a look over your shoulder, just to make sure the coast is clear, then you hand over the contraband. Neither of you says a word. You just nod, acknowledging the deal is done, then you head back to your car and buckle up for the drive home.
But before you can even put the car into drive, a screeching formation of police cars, surrounds you, sirens wailing. Armed officers leap from their vehicles, guns drawn and sunglasses glaring. “Come out with your hands up!” they shout.
You slowly open the driver’s door of your car and inch out of your seat with both hands raised in surrender, cowering behind the open door. “What did I do, officer? What’s my crime?”
Their answer comes back loud and intimidating: “SELLING RAW MILK!”
Springfield Missouri: Where farmers are branded criminals
The above description is a dramatization of real events that happened recently in Springfield, Missouri, where the state has decided to spend considerable taxpayer resources running a sting operating against a family that was caught dealing — gulp! — raw milk in a parking lot.
Yes, both the Missouri Dept. of Health and the state Attorney General (Chris Koster) have decided that prosecuting a farm family for illegally “trafficking” raw milk should be at the top of their list of priorities. The family being targeted by state officials is the Bechard family, of Armand and Teddi Bechard, and their children Joseph, Hananiah, Kazia and Katie.
The name of the cow offering the milk is reportedly “Misty.”
As the Springfield, Missouri News-Leader paper reports, “Two undercover investigators with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department allegedly caught two of the couple’s daughters on two occasions selling a gallon of milk each from a Springfield parking lot. Charges followed in municipal court.”
In case you’re not yet sure what you’re reading here, note carefully that these daughters were not caught selling crack, meth or crank. They weren’t dealing second-hand pharmaceuticals to yuppie school kids. They weren’t selling e.coli-contaminated hamburger meat, cancer-causing diet sodas (made with aspartame) or canned soups laced with MSG. They weren’t even selling broiler chickens contaminated with salmonella — just as you can find in every grocery store in America. Nope, they were selling raw milk. You know, the bovine mother’s milk, unpasteurized, unprocessed, non-homogenized and wholly pure, natural and innocent. The stuff America was raised on. The stuff your parents fed you when you were a kid, if your family was lucky enough to have a cow.
In Missouri today, selling such a natural product is now apparently a criminal act. What’s next? A ban on farm-fresh eggs because the Dept. of Health doesn’t control their quality? The outlawing of raw broccoli because broccoli contains natural anti-cancer medicine?
Fortunately, the Bechard family is fighting back. As reported by the News-Leader:
“They will not sign a consent order to make the state’s complaint go away and they’re defending themselves against the city charges, too. They’ve gotten legal help from the The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund, a nonprofit organization made up of farmers and consumers pooling resources to fight for the rights of family farmers trying to get unprocessed food to consumers who want it.”
A view from the Missouri-born Health Ranger
I grew up in Raytown, Missouri, just a few miles from Springfield. I spent more than a few summers on a farm near St. Louis, where we would milk the cows, gather fresh eggs from the chickens, and fish for catfish in the pond. I’m not exactly a farm boy, but I’m familiar enough with living off the land to know the difference between real food and processed food (a distinction the Missouri Dept. of Health still hasn’t gleaned…)

My “Do Nots” of Weight Loss!
November 3, 2009 by KT
I always try and give you the do’s of weight loss, but a lot of people have been asking me, “Kevin, I know the DO’s, but what are the DO NOT’s?”
• Do not eat after 6 p.m.
Do the best you can on this, however, the good news is you can virtually eat like a pig all day long, and if you stop eating after six you will still lose weight!
• Absolutely NO aspartame or any artifical sweeteners
Aspartame, which goes by the name NutraSweet, will make you fat. All other artificial sweeteners including saccharin, Splenda, or anything else, should be avoided.
• Absolutely NO Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
MSG is an excitotoxin. It makes you fat, causes all kinds of medical problems, and can affect your mood making you depressed. It also can be physically addicting, like Aspartame, and actually make you hungrier.
• Absolutely NO diet sodas or diet food
Diet sodas have been called the “new crack” because they appear to be so physically addicting. They actually make you fat. The reason they are promoted so heavily is because people become physically addicted to them and they are cheaper to make than regular sodas.
• NO fast food or chain restaurants
Any restaurant that is a chain, a franchise that sells fast food, produces their food in such a way that it will absolutely make you fat. You can actually eat french fries and cheeseburgers and lose weight, provided that the ingredients that you use are all organic and contain no chemical additives. It is virtually impossible to eat food in a chain or franchise restaurant where the food has not been processed to last for years without spoiling. The food has to be produced as cheaply as possible for the companies to make money. They must add chemicals to make the food taste great and get you physically addicted. This food also has been produced to increase your appetite and make you fatter. Remember, these are businesses whose only objective is to make a profit. If the food tastes amazing, becomes physically addicting, increases your appetite, and makes you fat, the restaurant is assured of success. They are like drug dealers getting their customers hooked on their product.
• NO high fructose corn syrup
This sweetener makes you fat and is physically addictive. Just stop buying food at the supermarket, go to a health food store instead. Do not buy food that is manufactured by large publicly traded companies. Do not buy brand name food. The profit motive is so high you can be assured that it is not good for you. The sweeteners that are used in food produced in a natural way include organic honey, organic molasses, organic fruit juice, organic dates, the herb stevia, evaporated sugar cane juice. Simply read the labels and if you can’t pronounce it, don’t buy it.
• NO white sugar or white flour
White sugar is in fact physically addicting and makes you fat. White flour, as I have mentioned previously, when mixed with water, makes paste. Eating white flour makes you fat; it can also be addicting, and clogs up your digestive system, slowing down your metabolism. Use organic whole-grain flours that have not been processed or stripped of the fiber.
• Limit dairy products
If you are going to consume milk, cheese, butter, or any dairy products, eat only organic products that have not been pasteurized or homogenized. The dairy products should be labeled “organic and raw.” It may be hard to find raw dairy products in some parts of the country. The next best option is organic, not homogenized, but that has been pasteurized. Your last option is organic that has been both pasteurized and homogenized. Ideally, if you want to lose weight, reduce dairy regardless of what you are getting. Definitely, absolutely, do not consume any dairy products that are not organic because they will have growth hormone in them and slow your weight loss.
• Reduce or eliminate the “uncontrollable” urge to eat when you are not hungry
Remember, censorship is alive and well in America. The Federal Trade commission has forbidden me from saying my opinions on how a person can eliminate addictions and uncontrollable urges to eat. And you thought there was free speech in America. If the First Amendment were true, I would be able to state my opinions and conclusions. I cannot. However, if you are an emotional eater and have uncontrollable urges and compulsions to eat when you are not hungry, get the book Tapping The Healer Within: How to Instantly Conquer Fears, Anxieties, and Emotional Distress.
Have a great week,
Kevin
