As if the brain-numbing effects of TV programming were not horrible enough, the CIA has openly admitted that it would like to use what many refer to as the “idiot box” as a bona fide surveillance tool.
The increasingly interconnected nature of the gadgets in our households now forms a network of information that continuously leaks into the ether our personal preferences, ideas, plans, and desires. It is a framework that any intelligence agency would drool over.
One can hear CIA director, David Petraeus, practically giggle with thanks when he states that people have essentially “bugged themselves” in their own homes. And, like any good spy agency, they are prepared to exploit it.
The exponential growth of supercomputers is now combining with an array of small, cheap, low-power chips that form the heart of a processing network that can monitor and remotely control any device, from TVs to appliances, light bulbs, just about anything that connects to the Internet, or can be read through radio waves.

Ron Paul: Limbaugh Isn’t Really Sorry

“Here is just another example why Ron Paul is the man. Not many republicans would go against their party and criticize Limbaugh, but then again, Ron Paul is not like most republicans. This is just one reason why he needs to be president. He’s an independent at heart.” –KTRN
Rush Limbaugh may be sorry he called student advocate Sandra Fluke a “slut,” but Ron Paul isn’t buying it.
“He’s doing it because some people were taking their advertisements off of his program. It was his bottom line he was concerned about,” Paul said. “I don’t think he’s very apologetic. It’s in his best interest, that’s why he did it.”
Limbaugh is facing intense backlash after ranting calling Fluke, a Georgetown University law student who testified in Congress in support of Obama’s birth control rule, a “slut” and a “prostitute.” Several advertisers have pulled ads from his show and a slew of journalists and politicians have spoken out against his remarks. Even President Obama called Fluke to express his support for her.
Though Limbaugh apologized for his comments, the damage may be done. Several sponsors who backed out have said they won’t reverse course in light of his apology.
Paul also called Limbaugh’s comments “over the top,” though he maintained that he did not support Obama’s mandate.

Getting Prepared Month 5: Sanitation Supplies and Establishing a Community of Like-Minded Folks

“There’s no better time than right now to start getting prepared for the coming global firestorm of war, poverty, and government control.” –KTRN
The months seem to be flying by. And as each month passes, I feel a sense of relief that that except for a short burst of extreme winter weather, my household has not had to dig into our emergency supplies for sustenance.
On the other hand, some unexpected personal emergencies have come up, and with them a renewed focus on being prepared not only for the big events in life, but also the smaller events that can turn your world upside down.
What are we doing in month five of 12 Months of Prepping, One Month at a Time? In Getting Prepared Month 5 we are focusing on cleaning and personal sanitizing supplies and on taking steps to establish a neighborhood community of like-minded folks that are interesting in learning about preparedness.
This is going to be an easy month so let’s get started.
MONTH 5 – SUPPLIES & GEAR:
Liquid dish soap
Plain liquid bleach
White vinegar
Empty spray bottle
Liquid hand soap and hand sanitizer
Bar of soap
Disposable hand wipes
Disposable latex or nutile gloves
Canned, ready-to-eat soup – 4 per person
Portable am/FM radio with batteries
It is understandable that food, water and first aid are at the top of everyone’s list when they first start gathering emergency supplies; and to that end, yes we are going to add some food this month. But before we do so, we need to take a tour around the house and gather up some cleaning and sanitizing supplies.
Why are cleaning supplies important? Well for one, staying clean is necessary in order to remain healthy. But perhaps equally important is the sense of calm we feel when we are in a clean environment. Think about your own living conditions in normal times. My guess is that you would much prefer to walk into a clean home than one that is littered with dirty dishes, towels, crumbs, dust and heaven forbid, grime and mold. Just the thought of it makes me want to check in to a nice clean hotel room!
We are not going to go overboard with our initial cleaning supplies – just some dish soap, white vinegar and plain liquid bleach (which also doubles as a sanitizer). With these items, you can pretty much clean everything with some elbow grease. You might want to throw some rags into the mix (and of course, my personal favorite is what I like to call “magic rags” but are actually microfiber cloths. And of course, you can keep those dirty rags clean with some dish soap and a tad of bleach.
And what is with the vinegar, you say? Add about a quarter to a half cup (no need to measure) into your spray bottle, then top with water and you have an easy, inexpensive and effective household cleaner.

Emergency Alert System To Be “Tested” Wednesday

“This not just an EAS Test – but a demonstration that the US government has the power to completely take over all radio and tv with just one switch.” –KTRN
The White House is preparing the country for the first nationwide test of the country’s emergency alert system on Wednesday.
The test will occur at 2 p.m. EST Wednesday and will last about 30 seconds, presidential spokesman Jay Carney told reporters.
The alert system can be activated by the president to inform the public in times of emergency. It has already been tested and used on the local level.
Carney said everyone should remember about Wednesday’s action by the administration: “It’s just a test.”

If you have ever wondered about the government’s ability to control the civilian airwaves, you will have your answer on November 9th.
On that day, federal authorities are going to shut off all television and radio communications simultaneously at 2:00PM EST to complete the first ever test of the national Emergency Alert System (EAS).
This isn’t a wild conspiracy theory. The upcoming test is posted on the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau website.
Only the President has the authority to activate EAS at the national level, and he has delegated that authority to the Director of FEMA. The test will be conducted jointly by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through FEMA, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS).
In essence, the authority to seize control of all television and civilian communication has been asserted by the executive branch and handed to a government agency.
The EAS has been around since 1994. Its precursor, the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS), started back in 1963. Television and radio broadcasters, satellite radio and satellite television providers, cable television and wireline video providers are all involved in the system.
So this begs the question: is the first ever national EAS test really a big deal?
Probably not. At least, not yet.
But there are some troubling factors all coming together right now that could conceivably trigger a real usage of the EAS system in the not too distant future. A European financial collapse could bring down U.S. markets. What is now the “Occupy” movement could lead to widespread civil unrest. And there are ominous signs that radical groups such as Anonymous will attempt something major on November 5th- Guy Fawke’s day.
Now we know in the event of a major crisis, the American people will be told with one voice, at the same time, about an emergency.
All thats left to determine is who will have control of the EAS when that day comes, and what their message will be.
