Sarah Palin Won’t Run For President In 2012

Sarah Palin made it official Wednesday evening: She won’t run for president.
In a statement to supporters, the 2008 vice presidential nominee said she would not seek the Republican nomination for the White House by entering what is already a crowded field.
Instead, Palin said she can be more effective helping other Republicans win office “from the nation’s governors to congressional seats and the presidency.”
Her statement from Wasilla, Alaska, was a shorter retreat than New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s bowing-out on Tuesday, which came at a lengthy news conference in Trenton.
Taken together, the twin Shermanesque statements leave Republicans facing what’s likely to be the complete GOP field — dominated by former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, and with pizza magnate Herman Cain rising in the polls.
Most Republicans had not expected Palin to run ever since Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota got into the race and soared to the top in the Iowa straw poll, but Bachmann’s stumbles since then opened the door a bit for another female contender with strong conservative credentials.
Palin’s path to the nomination would have been complicated by the presence of Perry and others — including Bachmann, Cain, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich— destined to split the conservative vote.
Perry, who has dropped in the polls recently following unimpressive debate performances, issued a statement calling Palin “a good friend, a great American and a true patriot. I respect her decision and know she will continue to be a strong voice for conservative values and needed change in Washington.”
The man who picked her as his running mate in 2008, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, said on Twitter that Palin will “continue to play an important role in our party and for our nation.”
Later, the former Alaska governor told Fox News Channel’s Greta Van Susteren, “You don’t need a title to make a difference in this country.”
Palin urged voters not to wait for perfection from the current Republican field of contenders.
“There is no one perfect candidate, and I want people to keep that in mind and not be extremely disappointed in a politician,” she said.

Former Governor Sarah Palin Not Running For President

Sarah Palin will not run for president in the next election cycle, according to multiple reports.
“After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for president of the United States,” said Palin in a statement on her decision.” As always, my family comes first and obviously Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision. When we serve, we devote ourselves to God, family and country. My decision maintains this order.”
During a radio interview on the “Mark Levin Show” after the news broke, Palin was asked if she’s considering running for president as an independent candidate. In response to the question she said, “I would assume that a third party would just guarantee Obama’s reelection, and that’s the last thing the Republican party can afford. So the consideration for a third party is not there, no.”
News of Palin’s decision comes after months of speculation swirling around Palin’s political ambitions. The former governor made headlines by embarking on a bus tour of the eastern United States in May. More recently, she captured attention with an appearance in Iowa that coincided with the Ames Straw Poll — a table-setter for next year’s Iowa caucuses.
“My decision is based upon a review of what common sense conservatives and independents have accomplished, especially over the last year,” Palin explained. “I believe that at this time I can be more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office — from the nation’s governors to congressional seats and the presidency.”
The former governor added, “Know that by working together we can bring this country back — and as I’ve always said, one doesn’t need a title to help do it.” On the “Mark Levin Show” she elaborated, “Not being a candidate really you’re unshackled and you’re allowed to be even more active.”
The announcement from Palin came one day after New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signaled that he will not pursue the Republican presidential nomination in 2012. Despite recent buzz on the possibility a contender could make a late entry into the race, the GOP primary field appears to be solidifying.
Until recently, the Republican race appeared to be shaping up as primarily a contest between former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Texas Governor Rick Perry. The latest polls out on the primary; however, show former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain finding a surge in support and the Perry’s numbers on the decline.
Perry released a statement on Palin’s decision on Wednesday. He said, “Sarah Palin is a good friend, a great American and a true patriot. I respect her decision and know she will continue to be a strong voice for conservative values and needed change in Washington.”
As for what’s next for Palin, the former governor said on Wednesday, “In the coming weeks I will help coordinate strategies to assist in replacing the president, re-taking the Senate, and maintaining the House.”

Wasilla, Alaska
After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States. As always, my family comes first and obviously Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision. When we serve, we devote ourselves to God, family and country. My decision maintains this order.
My decision is based upon a review of what common sense Conservatives and Independents have accomplished, especially over the last year. I believe that at this time I can be more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office – from the nation’s governors to Congressional seats and the Presidency. We need to continue to actively and aggressively help those who will stop the “fundamental transformation” of our nation and instead seek the restoration of our greatness, our goodness and our constitutional republic based on the rule of law.
From the bottom of my heart I thank those who have supported me and defended my record throughout the years, and encouraged me to run for President. Know that by working together we can bring this country back – and as I’ve always said, one doesn’t need a title to help do it.
I will continue driving the discussion for freedom and free markets, including in the race for President where our candidates must embrace immediate action toward energy independence through domestic resource developments of conventional energy sources, along with renewables. We must reduce tax burdens and onerous regulations that kill American industry, and our candidates must always push to minimize government to strengthen the economy and allow the private sector to create jobs.
Those will be our priorities so Americans can be confident that a smaller, smarter government that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people can better serve this most exceptional nation.
In the coming weeks I will help coordinate strategies to assist in replacing the President, re-taking the Senate, and maintaining the House.
Thank you again for all your support. Let’s unite to restore this country!
God bless America.

Rick Perry Slips, Herman Cain Rises In Bid For GOP Nomination

After a quick rise in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has experienced an almost equally dramatic decline, losing about half of his support over the past month, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Perry’s slide, which comes after several uneven performances in candidate debates, has allowed former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney to resurface atop the GOP field. But the most direct beneficiary of the disenchantment with Perry is businessman Herman Cain, who is now tied for second place.
Perry also faces opposition to one of his signature immigration policies in Texas, the survey shows.
His rapidly changing fortunes underscore the fluidity of the Republican race and the lingering dissatisfaction with the candidates.
That has led some major donors and party leaders to urge New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to declare his candidacy.
Christie is feverishly assessing whether to do so, with a decision expected this week. But the Post-ABC poll finds only modest public support for a Christie candidacy. About 42 percent of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents say they would like to see the New Jersey governor join the race. Thirty-four percent say no, with the rest offering no opinion.
That finding is far more positive than the receptivity to a candidacy by Sarah Palin. Two-thirds of Republicans say they do not want the former Alaska governor to seek the party’s nomination.
Although not fully satisfied with their choices, Republicans are optimistic about their chances of winning the election. More than eight in 10 say the eventual GOP nominee is likely to beat President Obama next year. In the new poll, Obama’s approval remained at a low point in his presidency.
Among announced candidates — without Christie or Palin in the race — Romney leads with 25 percent, which is identical to his support from a month ago. Perry and Cain are tied for second with 16 percent, numbers representing a 13-point drop for Perry and a 12-point rise for Cain since early September.
Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.) is the only other candidate in double figures, at 11 percent. Just behind him are former House speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) and Rep. Michele Bachmann (Minn.), both with 7 percent. Gingrich’s support has held steady through the late summer. Bachmann’s numbers fell sharply after Perry announced his candidacy.
Former senator Rick Santorum (Pa.) and former Utah governor Jon Huntsman Jr. bring up the rear, with Santorum at 2 percent and Huntsman at 1 percent.
If Christie and Palin are included in the hypothetical matchup, he checks in at 10 percent and she at 9 percent.
Perry’s support for the Texas policy of providing in-state tuition to the children of illegal immigrants appears to be a significant problem in the GOP race. About two-thirds of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents say they are less likely to vote for a candidate who backs such a policy. Among tea party supporters, nearly eight in 10 say this position is a negative factor.

Bristol Palin is Paid $262,500 For Abstinence Campaign

Bristol Palin took home $262,500 in 2009 for advocating against teen pregnancy, tax documents show. Apparently abstinence can be very lucrative.
The big bucks came from the Candie’s Foundation, a group aimed at shaping “the way youth in America think about teen pregnancy and parenthood.”
“We know that Ms. Palin’s work has had a positive effect on creating awareness about teen pregnancy,” Candie’s spokeswoman Ali Tyrangel said in a statement.
The reality show star, who made headlines as a teen mom in 2008 during her mother Sarah Palin’s run for vice president, even took her Candie’s campaign on her stint with “Dancing with the Stars.” Remember her awkward “pause before you play” sex talk with The Situation?
Critics are already taking shots at Palin, now 20, but some people are defending her, according to E! Online, saying, “The money she received was from multiple projects she did with them. She shot PSAs, print and Internet ads and did town hall meetings, as well, and the money she made was an accumulation of all of that. This is not out of the ordinary for a celebrity to make an income off of a charity they represent.”

Sec. Clinton Admits Fraudulent Drug War Is All About Money

In what is now being dubbed one of the most incoherent and nonsensical statements to be made by a politician in recent days concerning the “drug war”, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently told Mexican reporters that drugs like marijuana can never be legalized because “there is just too much money in it.” Displaying a complete lack of understanding concerning basic economics and simple common sense, Clinton foolishly tried to claim that legalization would benefit criminal drug lords, despite the fact that simple supply and demand proves otherwise.
“You can legalize small amounts for possession, but those who are making so much money selling, they have to be stopped,” Clinton said. “They can’t be given an even easier road to take, because they will then find it in their interest to addict even more young people.”
On the contrary, legalization would actually drive down drug prices, which would in turn be a disincentive to drug lords to continue selling as they currently do. Instead of all the violence and corruption that currently takes place in the “black market” of drug dealing, legal dealers would have little reason to resort to such actions in normal market settings.
“Clinton evidently does not understand that there is so much money to be made by selling illegal drugs precisely because they are illegal,” writes Jacob Sullum in an article at Reason.com. “Prohibition not only enables traffickers to earn a ‘risk premium’ that makes drug prices much higher than they would otherwise be; it delivers this highly lucrative business into the hands of criminals who, having no legal recourse, resolve disputes by spilling blood.”
Several pro-legalization groups have also come out against Clinton, calling her statements “ignorant” and “preposterous,” noting that if someone like Sarah Palin had said such things, she would have immediately been the laughing stock of the media.
Others say that Clinton’s statements were not birthed out of ignorance, but rather are a clear reflection of central government efforts to protect the illegal drug market. A 1998 PBS investigation, for instance, explains how the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) relies on international drug dealing to finance covert operations, which offers insight into the real reasons for the war on drugs.

Fox News Head Tells Hosts To Tone It Down

Politics Daily
By: David Gibson
Roger Ailes, the conservative who heads the Fox News Channel, has told his traditionally outspoken hosts to “shut up, tone it down” in the wake of the massacre in Tucson that is putting overheated right-wing rhetoric under intense scrutiny.
“I told all of our guys, shut up, tone it down, make your argument intellectually,” Ailes said in an interview with Russell Simmons, the global hip-hop impresario, that was posted at Simmons news site, GlobalGrind.com. “You don’t have to do it with bombast.”
Investigators have made no direct connection between the alleged shooter, 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, and any extremist organizations. Loughner shot and killed 6 people on Saturday at a Tucson mall while wounding a dozen others, including his main target, Democratic congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
But the shooting has raised questions about the often violent language and imagery associated with many populist activists and politicians, from Tea Party members to Sarah Palin.
Those questions are creating yet another rift between right and left. In his comments, the combative Ailes wasn’t about to throw in the towel, but instead argued that the left was as guilty as the right in the war of words, and in fact was exploiting the memory of victims like 9-year-old Christina Green, who was killed by Loughner’s bullets.
“It’s just a bullshit way to use the death of a little girl to get Fox News in an argument,” Ailes told Simmons.
“The education system knew about this guy… they kicked him out of school and told him until he gets a letter saying he’s not going to kill anybody, he can’t come back to school,” Ailes said. “The police department picked him up five times and let him go and nobody screened him for getting a weapon… So, by the time he decided to go to a mall and and wanting to kill somebody, he was attached to nobody. He was a flag burner. He just was not attached to the Tea Party.”
Ailes also cited various examples of violent left-wing imagery targeting conservatives, including a picture of himself with a bull’s-eye on his head — much has been made of a Palin ad showing Gifford’s district with a target on it — as well as a picture of a Palin doll hanging by a rope.
“This goes on,” Ailes said. “Both sides are wrong, but they both do it.”

How WikiLeaks Altered The Way We See The World In Just A Week
December 8, 2010 by admin
December 8th, 2010
The Guardian
By: Robert Booth and Haroon Siddique
Shortly before 6.30pm on Sunday night, the first cracks appeared in the dam. The largest ever leak of US government classified documents streamed out online, revealing never publicly seen details about Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan and Russia.
Throughout the week the stream became a torrent of information about how US diplomats and foreign governments see the world. According to these classified cables, Saudi Arabia wanted Washington to bomb Iran, the UK harbours “deep concerns about the safety and security of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons”, and Russia is considered a “virtual mafia state” with its president, Vladimir Putin, accused of amassing “illicit proceeds” from his time in office.
But perhaps most embarrassing for Hillary Clinton who, as US secretary of state, is ultimately responsible for the content of most of the cables released so far, was a cable that revealed Washington is running a spying campaign targeted at the secretary general, Ban Ki-moon and the rest of the UN leadership, as well as the permanent security council representatives from China, Russia, France and the UK.
Clinton has spent much of the week trying to justify the operation – which was looking for top UN officials’ passwords and credit card numbers , even DNA samples – to the press and in person to the UN secretary general.
As startling as the exposés were – the Saudi king urging America “to cut off the head of the snake”, to launch a military attack on Iran’s nuclear programme – it was as much the sense of a curtain lifting to reveal the world leaders not as wizards but as all too human, and that the private positions of those in power were often diametrically opposed to what they said in public, that made the cables so gripping – and perhaps so dangerous.
Clinton’s immediate reaction was to strongly condemn the leak and say that “every country, including the US, must be able to have honest, private dialogue with other countries … When someone breaches that trust, we are the worse off for it.”
Former presidential candidate, the Republican Mike Huckabee called for the execution of Bradley Manning, the 23-year-old US army intelligence analyst who is in custody at a military base in Virginia, facing trial for downloading the files while on duty in Iraq.
Fellow Republican Sarah Palin called Julian Assange, the fugitive founder of the WikiLeaks website, “an anti-American operative with blood on his hands” because she said previous leaks had included the identities of “more than 100 Afghan sources to the Taliban”.
Yesterday Assange described Manning as “an unparalleled hero”.
Several leaders who fared badly from the revelations were unconvinced the leaks were genuine. It was revealed that Russia was using mafia members to carry out operations like arms trafficking and that bribery functions as a parallel tax system for the personal enrichment of the police, officials and the KGB’s successor, the FSB. Even before the revelations, Vladimir Putin said: “Some experts believe that somebody is deceiving WikiLeaks, that its reputation is being undermined in order for it to be used for political purposes. Such an opinion is being expressed here.”
A day later, it emerged that US diplomats had reported suspicions that the Italian prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, could be “profiting personally and handsomely” from secret deals with Putin.
President Ahmadinejad of Iran also denied that the Gulf Arab states are antagonistic towards his regime and said: “We don’t think this information was leaked. We think it was organised to be released on a regular basis and they are pursuing political goals.”
Turkish prime minister Tayyip Erdogan was so rattled that he even threatened to sue over allegations of corruption.
Rampant corruption in Afghanistan was revealed, including an incident last year when the then vice-president, Ahmad Zia Massoud, was stopped and questioned in Dubai when he flew into the emirate with $52m in cash.
In the UK, there were calls for Mervyn King, the governor of the Bank of England, to resign after it emerged he had been briefing the US ambassador to London, Louis Susman, about the “lack of experience” of David Cameron and George Osborne, and that they “had a tendency to think about issues only in terms of politics and how they might affect Tory electorability [sic]“.
At least one major revelation gave some hopes for a more peaceful future, not least the suggestion that China is ready to accept Korean unification and is distancing itself from North Korea, which it describes as behaving like a “spoiled child”.
Dispatches on North Korea showed that South Korea’s vice-foreign minister was told by two senior Chinese officials that they believed Korea should be reunified under Seoul’s control and that this view was gaining ground in Beijing.
Throughout the week, the US authorities increased the pressure on WikiLeaks. On Tuesday they announced an investigation into whether it had breached espionage laws, and on Wednesday they successfully pressured Amazon to stop hosting the site.
Joe Lieberman, chairman of the Senate’s committee on homeland security, called on “any other company or organisation that is hosting WikiLeaks to immediately terminate its relationship with them”.
Yesterday, the WikiLeaks website went offline for the third time this week.
