Well, the holiday season is here and you know what that means… travel. If you’re traveling a lot this holiday season to see family, friends or just to relax, you need to take the extra precautions to keep yourself from getting sick.
Here are my suggestions to protect yourself before and after your trip:
Ginger
Ginger calms nerves, relieves nausea due to motion sickness, is an overall digestive soother, and acts as a gentle decongestant to ease sinus irritation.
Drink Water
Carry at least 2 bottles of pure filtered water to through your flight. Drinking supports the next important tip.
Move Around
Drinking will make it so you must get out of your seat to use the bathroom, hopefully at least every half hour. Each bathroom trip, stand and stretch, raise up your arms, wiggle your feet, jump up and down. The jumping helps to compensate for the absence of muscular activity in the calves from sitting for extended periods, which severely slows lower limb circulation.
Mist
Carry a small spray bottle to mist your face while flying. Misting hydrates the skin, and helps keep nasal passages moistened.
Supplement
Double up on your daily doses of vitamin C, zinc, antioxidants, green foods such as chlorella and spirulina, whole food multiple vitamins and vitamin E.
Food
Bring food, such as fresh fruit, raw nuts and seeds, organic food bars or a sandwich made on whole grain bread. Make sure to bring enough food to keep you from eating the salty, fatty, roasted peanuts and cheap preservative-filled pretzels served on flights these days!
Do not drink alcohol
It will dehydrate you, dull your senses, keep you from drinking enough water, as well as leave you prone to infection due to the immune-lowering effects of alcohol.
Most Important: Rest!
Travel well rested. This commonly overlooked aspect of healthy travel sets the stage for a stress cycle that can last your entire trip. Hard as it is to get out the door, be sure to sleep well before you travel.
Happy Holidays!

Spirulina Greatly Helps Allergy Sufferers

Natural News
By Donna Earnest Pravel
Spirulina is a blue-green algae which is commercially produced and widely marketed as a “superfood” and immune booster. It is also a rich source of natural, plant-based iron, calcium, vitamin A and vitamin C, and an excellent source of plant protein, with up to 70% of its dry weight being protein. The alpha-linolenic acid profile in spirulina is the highest in the plant kingdom, coming in third overall behind milk and evening primrose oil.
A study published in the Spring 2005 issue of the Journal of Medicinal Food indicated that ingested spirulina made a significant improvement in human patients with nasal allergies, also known as allergic rhinitis. In this study, researchers measured the amount of cytokines, interferon, and other immune system signals found in the bloodstream before and after taking spirulina. Cytokines are immune system molecules which send signals to alert immune “fighters” to come to the body’s aid when a pathogen is encountered. They act as auto-immune communicators. Cytokines can be either proteins, glycoproteins, or peptides.
According to the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, interferons are another type of immune system signal. They work by binding to receptors located on cell membranes, sending a “red alert” message to the cells. Cells then respond to this message by triggering 20-30 genes which then create an anti-viral cellular environment.

4 Simple Detox Tips From Food Matters

Food Matters

“If you haven’t seen the movie Food Matters yet, we highly recommend you check it out. Here are some simple detox tips form the makers of the film.” — KTRN
1. Drink More Water
Too often we misinterpret thirst for hunger. Our signal for thirst may cause us to eat as we mistake it for hunger pains. Reach for water first and make sure you are well hydrated before eating any meal throughout the day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Where possible make sure to drink your water at least 30 minutes before eating as this will allow time for the water to properly penetrate the cells of your body and hydrate your stomach lining in preparation for proper digestion. I like to add lemon juice and apple cider vinegar to my water or green it up with barley grass powder, wheatgrass powder, spirulina or chlorella. Yum!
2. Add A Green Juice To Your Day
Green juices are an amazing way to add life giving and detoxifying plant chlorophyll to your bloodstream. As Jason Vale says in the upcoming new ‘Food Matters’ film, “juicing is the ultimate fast food, it is a 15 minute nutrient express to health”. Some of my favorite and simple green juice recipes include:
Green Juice Recipe Ideas:
- Celery, lemon and pear (or apple)
- Celery, cucumber, lemon (leave the skin on) and pear (or apple)
- Celery, cucumber, kale, lemon and pear (or apple)
- Celery, cucumber, lemon, parsley and pear (or apple)
I also like to stir whatever green powders I have laying around the house into my juices to green them up even more! Again try barley grass, wheatgrass, spirulina or chlorella powders.
3. Add More Parsley and Cilantro (Corriander) To Your Diet
Parsley and cilantro (corriander) are very powerful natural green plant foods for detoxing heavy metals out of your body. Add these amazing herbs to juices, salads, soups and meals. Mike Adams from Natural News talks more about this also in the new upcoming ‘Food Matters’ film.

Discover The Superfood Power Of Spirulina

“I drink a green super-food drink almost every day that has spirulina in it. The best tasting green drinks (in my opinion) come from the Amazing Grass company. I have tried others with almost vomiting results. But their drinks are actually quite refreshing.” –Chris Davis KTRN
Foods that have an incredible array of health benefits that go well beyond just their nutrient value are considered ‘super-foods.’ The blue-green algae spirulina is one of the most primitive forms of life on the planet. This algae is known for its extraordinary survival adaptations. Spirulina is considered a superfood due to its unique level of nutrient density.
Spirulina are single celled organisms that survive by producing their energy through photosynthesis. These algae are in the class of cyanobacteria because cyano is Greek for blue. They contain chlorophyll (green color) phycocyanins & anthocyanins (blue color) which blend to give them the characteristic blue-green color.
Spirulina is found all over the world in fresh water, saltwater oceans & natural springs. Spirulina was renowned for its healing properties and was a staple part of the North African and Aztec Indian diet many years ago. Today, natural health experts all around the world revere spirulina for its potential as a whole food mega-nutrient and natural medicine.
Unique Nutrient Blend
Spirulina contains an incredible array of nutrients that make them a functional whole food for sustaining life without the need for other foods. These algae contain pre-digested protein (in the form of amino acids) for quick absorption and high utilization rates. Spirulina contains essential omega-3 fatty acids such as EPA & DHA. Algae, in fact, are the very source that fish, krill and other animals obtain their omega 3′s.
Spirulina is a rich source of the tough to find essential omega-6 fat GLA.
It also provides nucleic acids (DNA & RNA) that provide a megadose of raw materials for DNA repair. Spirulina is a very rich source of critical B vitamin methylating agents such as B6 and folic acid. Spirulina has an extraordinary array of anti-oxidant phytonutrient anthocyanins. These anthocyanins are renowned for their powerful anti-carcinogenic properties.
Spirulina has strong anti-microbial effects that help create balance in the gut flora. It does this by controlling the growth of pathogenic bacteria and yeasts in the digestive system. This is critical for optimal digestion and nutritional absorption. Additionally, it is a very important part of detoxification through the bowel systems.

Studies Confirm Link Between Cholesterol Drugs and Higher Rates of Diabetes

Seven years after the American Diabetes Association urged all diabetics, regardless of whether or not they had high cholesterol, to take statin drugs because they “may have some other qualities that have not been tested,”, a new analysis published in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows that statin drugs actually cause diabetes.
The findings also confirm the general ineptitude of American disease and medical groups that continually push dangerous drugs on the public that have never been adequately verified for safety or effectiveness.
The study, which includes data from five randomized clinical trials, appears poised to highlight the alleged benefits of statins to lower cholesterol levels, rather than focus on their link to causing diabetes.
But what the study actually proves is that taking statins leads to more disease, especially in light of various recent studies that show statins do not even work effectively to lower cholesterol, let alone treat anything else.
Despite an slight decrease in cardiovascular events among patients taking statins like Lipitor, Pravachol, and Crestor, the data does not indicate whether other factors like dietary and lifestyle changes may have played a role in this outcome. And yet at the same time, the data shows an 8.4 percent rise in diabetes among the statin groups.
Aside from their many serious side effects, which include loss of muscle mass, liver disease, kidney failure, depleted Coenzyme Q10 levels, and heart attacks, statins have never been proven safe or effective for their stated purpose.
Numerous studies, including one published last year in the British Medical Journal, show that statins harm more people than they actually help — and in truth, there is scant evidence that statins do anything beneficial at all for patients.
In other words, patients with high cholesterol levels do not need to take statin drugs for the rest of their lives to manage their “condition” — this is not the only option.
Eliminating processed, chemical-laden foods from your diet, consuming more superfoods like spirulina and chlorella, and getting plenty of daily exercise is a great place to start when trying to lower cholesterol naturally.
